My two cents on the current beta. by Dr621

THE GOOD:

Folders

The ability to categorize all of your submissions with no restrictions that I can see. (I decided to start making folders per artist, when I have 3 or more uploaded from the same person.)

Shouts

Shouts seem to be saved onto your page regardless of their age or the amount of shouts you get, as long as you click on the little "Shouts" tab right below your most recent submissions, where everything else is also located.

Banner

It's nifty, seems to improve the outlook of one's profile a lot and helps personalizing said profile.

Simplicity

The site looks so, SO clean and easy to read. And it's not as boring and one-tone as FA.

THE BAD:

Submission inbox (Art, characters, etc.)

Here's how you have to check and clear your inbox:

Click the Submission Notification > Click the VIEW AND MANAGE submissions/characters/etc (Separate link for each type) > Now you can check what to remove.

Folders

Here's how you have to make a folder:

Settings > Folders > Create a folder > Go to your profile > Go to your submissions > Edit submission details to add it to your folder > Repeat for every submission in your gallery.

Tags

You can't copy-paste tags between submissions, nor manually as just a simple text. If you do, it all enters as one tag, and when you press space to make another tag, only the very first tag in what you pasted will save.

Confirmation pop-up

For example when you remove all or remove checked submissions/journals. It pops up every time, and there doesn't seem to be a way to toggle it off as a site setting.

Upload Policy for non-artists

It seems a little harsh and unfair. I'm perfectly fine with the enforced "anthro" tag because this is NOT a furry site like most people(myself included) thought.

But to not allow us commissioners upload the things we want into our own galleries, but instead making us use the Collection system which doesn't promote itself anywhere near like a normal submission? Me no likey.

I feel that if this rule is to stay, a lot of regular commissioners(at least furry) will simply stay on FA instead of moving here. And due to lack of business for some artists, they might not migrate over, either.

Yes, yes. Beta is beta, and everything is subject to change. :3

Overall I really like the site. Just has some things to fix, like everything does.

My two cents on the current beta.

I have to agree with everything you said here, especially that one about the submissions (having to click that link on the bottom of the page to manage the submissions is, in my opinion, a little silly) and the confirmation pop up is annoying. All the same, I'm really enjoying it here.

Ended up finding out not too long ago that this site, with its current Upload Policy, is extremely hostile towards commissioners. Apparently you're not allowed to upload a picture you've commissioned if the artist has an account on Weasyl and decides to upload said picture in their gallery. And if they don't have an account on Weasyl, it's recommended that you invite them over to make a Weasyl account.

actually, they also say you can post commissioned works there. I mean, there's no reason they would deny you the right to post commissioned works on your account if the original artist either won't get on the site, is dead, has dropped off the internet, or just plain don't want to upload the commished pic for whatever reason.

I mean, I have a request piccy from an artist who wants to stay anonymous, so that >.>

Although we have this system, users are still allowed to upload pieces made for them/that include them, as long as one of three conditions are met:

          1. The upload in question that was made for you is personal, and you wish to set friends-only permissions to it

          2. The original creator does not want to put it in their gallery

          3. The person who made your upload does not have a Weasyl account, although we strongly encourage our users to invite those artists who made works for them to the site. If they decline the invite, then go ahead and proceed!

Yeah, I know that you are still -allowed- to upload stuff here even if it isn't drawn by you.

But it's still pretty hostile towards commissioners, assuming that majority of the artists that they've commissioned works from have/are joining Weasyl, like what's happening to me.

            seriously, you shouldn't worry about that :3 the staff aren't stuck-ups y'know.

              That's what I'm thinking/hoping. ^^

Which is also why I have my hopes up for Weasyl becoming better than FA, in the end.

It's still only Beta, nothing is final yet, like I said in the journal itself~
