Radeon R9 270X by DeRiften

We were planning to leave around 8:00am but the big storm that we avoided by leaving a day earlier apparently caught up with us so we left at 6:00am instead. It's a shame since the expensive breakfast restaurant my uncle wanted to treat us to was closed at this hour, so we got Tim Horton instead and by noon, we were home at last. I actually finally finished Pokemon HeartGold after... geesh, almost a year of playing it on and off when I do a long trip? And even "finished" is relative, since I still need to catch Lugia and Zapdos, but other than that everything is done so I consider it finished. Sure I could visit the Rock Climb areas and see the post-game safari zone, but meh. I've been working on this game for a long time, so I think it's time to pass on to Pokemon Black once I can afford it.

Anyway, after barely 20 minutes of unpacking, everything was in place and we were on our way back to the city to buy food and litter for Wesley, and around 3:30pm we were back home for good. And even better, I received my new GPU! Installed the sexy beast (it's two slots large and requires two plugs from the PSU, hot dang) and went to plug the computer and everything, when I noticed the GPU uses a VDI slot instead of VGA for low-quality (which I always keep plugged incase HDMI decides to break). Of course, I didn't have a VDI adapter since I've always used VGA before, so I was like "neat, new technology!" and plugged the HDMI only, before turning it on and... nothing.

I had this issue with HDMI at first and I could only fix it by plugging both VGA and HDMI, so I thought I needed both VDI and HDMI this time and was pretty discouraged since I'd have to buy an adapter on newegg and wait a week or two for it to arrive (or 3-4 weeks since this is a rural area). I was sad-faced when I opened my computer again to replace it with my old GPU, but when I touched one of the six-slots it just slipped out so I was like "wait a minute...", clipped it back in real good and turned it on again and... it worked! Ends up I just messed up on the installation, what a derp that was.

Installed the drivers and I'm getting a few artifacts, but that's normal since the computer's been cold and the GPU isn't broken yet (not literally broken, mind you. I mean when you "break" something that's new in order to make it work at its fullest, like a pair of shoes or a new leather coat); it should be much better tomorrow and in the coming weeks. But the performance.. hot dang. Before, I was getting barely 30FPS on Final Fantasy XIV with lowered shadows but now, the frame limiter is keeping it at a steady 60FPS on Maximum settings, it's just perfectly fluid now and it feels good, man. I should actually be able to run Far Cry 3 now... as well as Dragon Age 2 on DirectX 11, but that'll be for later.

For now, I'm really tired and require a long rest. So does Wesley, the trip's been stressful for him and he's been sleeping on me since we arrived, poor thing.
