So FA's been in read only mode all day, from what I can tell as it was going in and out of read only mode last night. This and the daily slowdowns is getting rather annoying and some artists I follow are seriously wondering why there isn't a mass exodus from FA given the constant issues they keep having and just don't seem capable, or interested, in fixing. I do have to wonder the same thing.

The sight owner and admins just seem to not really care about these issues as they keep happening. They recently were asking for donations for hardware upgrades to solve the slowdown issues everyone was having. Even right after the upgrades were installed the site was still having the slowdown issues which says that it wasn't really a hardware issue to begin with but more likely a software issue.

For years since I've been a member there have been calls for them to update the site coding to make it run better. They haven't. There's been constant demands for folders and they even said folders were being worked on a few years ago, still no folders. Weasyl, SoFurry, and Inkbunny all have folders. Even DA has folders but it's too complicated for FA to implement into their code, at least this is the only reason I can think of for them to not be doing folders. This is a sign that the code needs to be updated at the very least but more likely replacing it with better working code would be much preferred. Something they don't want to do.

I've considered leaving FA as my main upload site over these issues and this prolonged read only mode is just making it more tempting. I'm not saying I'd leave FA completely, still have a bunch of artists that I watch that don't have galleries elsewhere, just that another site would become my main site and honestly I'd probably choose weasyl over any other site. I like the layout, the upload process is easy to use and the site suffers from none of the issues FA does on a daiyly basis. Now that could change if people actually start flooding onto Weasyl, but hopefully the Weasyl servers and coding could handle the added load if such a thing did occur.

Anyways to conclude, not leaving FA, just might be making Weasyl my main site to upload to.
