Raven Wolf - What would you like to see next year? by Kura

With the end of the year soon approaching I’ve debating ways I would be able to interact with readers and fans a little bit better next year.

At the moment I have the tumblr asks, and the character polls I like to do in February and March (Fav couple, and fav character)

Is there anything else you would like to see? (aside from new chapters and comic pages)

More communication through journals?

More polls?

Contests? (example fanart or fanfic contests?)

Chat room?

Do streaming again?

Small online events?

Conventions?

More art outside the comic pages?

Merchandise?

If you can think of ideas related to these categories or even ones I haven’t even thought up of yet be sure to leave a comment or a note. I’m curious to know what everyone would be interested in seeing.

Personally, I'm only really interested in your comic. I guess I'm not such a social person. But I think often people don't really know what they want, much less being willing to ask for it. If I were you I'd be somewhat methodical. I would just start actively trying out these things with an eye towards the turnout. Most importantly do these things often, hang out regularly with those who come, and remember (journal) what really works and why. You will learn what people really want, and you'll grow a sort of "Kura's hangout" with its own reputation and regulars. The point is that people usually can't or won't say what they want, but their feet say so right away. Asking directly may seem like an easy solution but considering human nature, I think it may actually be worse than trial-and-error. I think as long as you are productive and active though, people will visit your page. But they will only do that if there is new stuff to see or do. And of course, anything that involves prizes, witty banter and real-time socializing is fun, if you can get more than a few people together.

What about an online drawing game? A multi-person drawing board (drawchat) can be a creative freeform thing that can be really fun for anyone who can draw stick figures. It can be fuel for creativity because you have the creativity of everyone drawing. I consulted my resident artist, and he said it all: "Starting a room on any draw chat website could be fun, if enough fans attend, although I suppose most fans may not be artists. Still, it would be even "closer" than merely watching the artist stream video as they draw (although live streams usually do have an accompanying chat room with which the artist may talk to fans)." So, perhaps you could do a livestream, except in an online drawchat where anyone can goof with your drawing! Your art would be vulnerable, but it could be great fun to just go with the flow. Being vulnerable makes you more real and brings you closer to your fans. As the moderator to the drawchat you may be able to revert changes so you can stop drawspamming and trolls. I hope there is a drawchat site that has these features. My artist pointed out these sites: http://gas.appspot.com/ and iscribble.com
