How do I do my stuff now? by ai-Marzzel

Thanks for your interest.

My initial tools are mostly known programs, where I can unleash my creativity. Often an app that allows me to create content on the fly is a tool I will use to begin a process; it can be for my office work or my personal projects. I currently own a Windows desktop computer and also a couple of Samsung Note/S2x Ultra smartphones where I can hook up a small Wacom Bamboo tablet, or use the mouse for a quick ref drawing, or the mobile's pen it comes with.

As for the software I rely mainly on Infinite Painter, Photoshop, MediBang Paint, Nomad Sculpt, MS Paint, 3D Max, Blender, After Effects, any canvas I can use a brush is fine by me.

One of my personal rules, is to draw just like I conceive life itself, if I draw a character, it will be "biologically functional". Without clothing, it'll be naked, unless something covers parts that should be covered, I try as much as possible to stay away from comics. And... I have issues with perfectionism... excuses in advance.

Depending on the process I'd select what tool to use, or I can use any of the available ones to create something.

As of now 2023, with the boom of AI models and their power to create content, I moved some of the process to that area, in example, if I need to make a video of a place and I find it too boring to have a slow sliding photo on background, I'd make use of an AI tool to generate movement based on what it detects as depth in this photo and I can use it to fake a real camera panning, sliding, dolling move on-site. I will then grab into After Effects for fine-tuning. Same with sound, I would use an AI tool if I find royalty-free sound libraries not offering me what I need.

I also use some of the AI tools for still images, mainly furry content I'd show here regularly. However being aware of what it involves and how crazy can AI behave, I prefer to sketch all my content on a canvas, give it shades when needed and create sub process for content generation when needed. Image AI Gen uses something called models, that is a large file trained with a lot of images sometimes from unknown sources, that helps to fill gaps, generate new content based on text you input into it.
However, for my personal case, I've learned how to train those models, and learned how to use my own content to fill my own gaps. Let's say, I did 80 drawings of hands, 80 drawings of feet, some heads some bodies, eyes, etc. And feed it into a model from zero. A technology for AI called LoRA (you can find it on the web), and I can use those to generate my own contents that way. And if the process requires, I will use other models.

AI tends to "hallucinate", which means if you ask for it to create something, it will generate 50% what you asked for and the rest, it will create anything what you didn't ask for. You might find familiarized with such pictures when you find artwork of a character with 3 legs, deformed faces, a nightmare fuel on some cases. For that reason is why I do my own sketches, I might even model something in 3D to get the poses, lightning and references from it, I like to make things on my own to let AI only fill the gaps.

Behind the curtains there's also a lot of work, that involves fine-tuning to get a desired result, sometimes it might take long hours of test and error, to get something I find comfortable with. It's not something of type a couple of words and call it a day.

All of this doesn't mean I will not post "normal" content. I still draw traditionally and digitally and I'll post that too sometimes. I've studied many things in order to understand how art creation works.
