PLEASE HELP!!! [UPD] 14.01.23 by FelanGrey

Hello everyone ,

As you know, I've been wanting to deal with my workload and commission queue, but the world just doesn't want to let up. I hate to ask yet again, but I've hit a point where I need help.

For fear of getting into too much graphic detail, this year started off with some pretty bad hemorrhoids. I've started to medically treat it but it continued to worsen. Following this, I managed to get a flu last week. Now my temperature is around 37.5 C / 100 F and there is a possibility of infection that will require medical intervention. The good news is the medical operation is already scheduled for tomorrow. The bad news is my finances are strained. I can cover the operation by maxing out my credit funds and using all of my savings. That's it, nothing left. Won't even have funds for food.

All told, the medical procedure will cost about $1k USD between the procedure itself and follow ups. I'll also need at least $100 USD for food for the month, not mentioning rent, power, and other general day to day expenses.

All this combined has left me in a state of despair, and I don't know what to do. Out of my family, I'm the only one able to work for any kind of income with everything going on, and between this and my current queue, any other commission work will have a wait time of at least a year.

I don't want to ask for a hand out, but any support people can offer would be appreciated. You can chip in over on Patreon ( https://www.patreon.com/FelanGrey ) or send funds directly via PayPal ( felan-grey[at]ukr.net ).

As always, thank you for your continued support, both emotionally and financially. You all keep me going.

[UPD] 11.01.23
Operation was successful. And I'm finally home. Good that I've decide to do it now, problem was bigger than we thought at first. Now it will be a long road to be healthy.
Thanks for all suppor you give me. And we made a half of needed money to not get drawn in credits hole!

[UPD] 13.01.23
Yesterday I had a checkup. All is fine but recovery will take min 3 weeks. And now, I'm finally have normal temperature \o/
Only after operaion medicine is more expensive than I was thought. For 1,5 week I've spend ~110$.
And thanks to you I had enough to get it 🧡

[UPD] 14.01.23
Today I was wanted to start with good news, but an arrival of a rocket in my city (Kyiv) leave me without electricity for almost all day. At least now I have it back.
The good news is that we collected needed money and even more \o/

Thanks to you, I can recover without unnecessary stress due to lack of funds. 🧡

    How much collected so far:

You're in the USA, right? I'm pretty sure they can't legally force you to pay everything at once, nor is there interest on medical bills. If you actually need a medical procedure done to save your life, they cannot deny it regardless of your ability to pay. If you are at risk of severe or permanent damage due to this issue, they cannot refuse. No matter how poor you are, you are able to get medical treatment, and can pay over time.

My friend had gone into a diabetic coma, and spent 3 days in the hospital. They charged him $40,000 for it. I told him that he can just ignore it, that it falls off your history in 7 years if you don't pay a cent, and that it was ludicrous to charge that much.

You need to seek a financial advisor to confirm the finer details of all of this, before panicking. These businesses like to scare you into thinking you have to pay all up front and everything, its not true. They are just worried you'll ditch payment like many other people do. Like I did when they wanted to charge me $2000 for a 30 minute echo-cardiogram. Fuck that bullshit.

If you have already paid by maxing everything out, you're screwed. Otherwise, talk to someone, a lawyer even, try and find free advice on how to handle the situation. Medical industries are supposed to offer you payment plans and allow you to pay at a pace you are able to afford.

Also, on another note. Your credit line is maxed at $1000? Sounds like I need to talk to you about how you can improve your credit score and get higher limits at some point. :P I'm on disability, with a maximum income of around $800/m which is like, half minimum wage around here. I spent a long time of my early life building my credit score up to the 800-850 range, even with next to no money. This allowed me to get a very high credit line that I can use in the event of emergencies where payment plans aren't possible (not that those ever exist).

Not to mention I know how to move debt around to stop interest from being charged which I did for a long time when I had $7000 in debt (caused by a friend who let his wife at the time steal my card).

If you wanna talk to me, you can find me on telegram. I can give advice on stuff and I have friends who can add to the advice even.

1000$ is enough for most I need so far, justmy income istoo low to handle higher limit.

I'm from Ukraine, and they take money only after operaion.

Well you mentioned USD, I assumed you were in America for that reason. In America, you can work out a payment plan with any medical institution. They won't bankrupt you or charge you in full up front, they just can't. Its not allowed. Medical bills don't even count against your credit score, which is why you can ignore them. Although you'll get annoyed by calls and collection agencies and probably isn't a good idea to do it a lot unless it was some massive bill that was totally unfair.

Furthermore, in America, you should have health insurance, which will knock down the costs of treatments and prevent them from charging you illegally high amounts. Hospitals do that because they have a lot of people who don't pay so they want the people they can scare into paying, to pay extra. But, if its not an American hospital and such, I don't know then. You'll need to consult with local lawyers on the subject. As for America, there are lots of ways to handle this and I know several people I can get advice from on the matter if need be.

Well, there was a bigger problem that we though at first. So, good that I decide to do it, and they haven't charge more for it because, of higher difficulty.
Now it will be a long recover. But for now it looks like they made all they have for this price, also it's not a higher price for such operation.

And we already collected half of the needed money to not get drawn into a credit hole \o/

Well, in the future, remember that any and all American medical bills can be paid in smaller chunks. In fact, even if negotiations for payment plans fail, you can tell them "Tough, I'm not paying more than x amount per month" and then just pay what you want each month. It may annoy them, but its not like they can do anything about it.

As it turns out, I think some laws have changed regarding medical bills and debt collectors can sue you if you don't pay at all. But I believe as long as you're paying something down each month, there's nothing they can do. But again, this is the American medical system. I dunno about Ukraine, you hadn't confirmed whether you're a Ukrainian living in America or if you are living in Ukraine. :P
