FURCAR: Cheez-It 355 @ The Glen (results/standings) by furcar

After taking on Indy and Pocono, the FURCAR drivers were ready to relax with an easy race. However, that wasn’t on the schedule for this weekend and instead they found themselves in the backwoods of Watkins Glen, driving on a road course. Well, at least it was a change of pace! After a few weekends’ worth of changes of pace…

Belic topped the speed chart during qualifying, only to be edged out by Slidewolf for first place. Belic would maintain second, with Mark and Moon Mochi qualifying in third and fourth. Croco lost grip during his qualifying lap while trying to push his car too hard and finished with the slowest time overall. Raz Yoshi also had trouble, sliding through the grass before collecting himself and returning to the track, just edging out the croc for the last starting place.

Even though practices and qualifying had been fast for some teams, come race day, it was a whole other matter. Middle packers, K’gra and Zero left the track early due to on-track incidences. (It was later rumored that they left the garage area altogether to raid the Cheez-It promotional truck's supplies, but no charges have been filed.) Wildfox and Furry Mike also dropped to the rear of the field after lengthy pit stops to repair damage. Pole winner Slidewolf and third-place starter Mark likewise had issues which caused them to become several laps down.

However, Tigris, Croco, and Raz took advantage of the clearing field, having avoided all the wrecks despite their starts at the rear of the field. Vying for top spot in the season championship, Duroc Hog passed Cheesebeagle and set his sights on Belic, hugging tight to the ursine. He decided to play it smart and followed behind the bruin once he caught up to him, though still looking for any opportunity to pass without taking himself out. Yet there’s nothing a bruin loves more than turning left AND right. Croco took advantage of the hog’s caution and slipped past him, taking advantage of Belic’s focus on his rival to slip past when he wasn’t looking.

During green flag stops, Edscott’s crew pulled out a killer pit stop, sending him out onto the track. Once everyone else had cycled through, he found himself in first, ahead of the battling croc, bear, and hog. Talk about pressure! On the last lap, Croco knew it was now or never to take over the lead. He followed in the leader’s wake closely, tapping him when the opportunity looked ripe to cause Edscott to check-up. However, the wily veteran was having none of it until he entered Turn 11. The croc dove hard to the inside of the turn, braking as late as he could. His front left bumper touched the # 42, pushing him towards the outside of the corner. However, he was by no means out of the picture and held onto his car, getting back on the gas after only the briefest of taps to the brake to make sure he had all four tires underneath him. Down the front stretch started the drag race to the finish line. And the two cars crossed beneath the stand neck and neck. A photo finish!

When the FURCAR officials radioed the pits and made the announcement to the fans, the finish was declared a dead heat! Both visually and via their transponder signals, both cars crossed the line at exactly the same moment! Fortunately, with the length of the course, it gave the track workers time to expand Victory Lane to accommodate both drivers. Last week, Edscott won at Pocono. Winning is going to become old-hat to him soon!

Finishing in third was season champion, Belic Bear, who regains the season points lead, followed by Duroc, who takes over second in the season points. Raz Yoshi finished fifth after starting in twenty-second. Rookie Draco finished sixth, then Moon Mochi, our other rookie Harry, and then Tigris and Oren Hart to round out the top-10.

As we said previously, Belic has taken back over the season points lead, taking Duroc along with him for the ride. Cheesebeagle’s day did not go as he’d hoped on the road course, dropping him to third. Shockey Rai maintained his fourth place position, Croco rose four spots to fifth, Oren two spots to sixth, and Tigris four spots to seventh. Jackie Rae fell one position to eighth, Dart fell four spots to ninth, and Eric held onto his tenth place position, edging out Moon Mochi despite their tie due to having just one more top-5 finish than her.

Draco managed to gain a few points on Harry, but still remains in second place with four races left to go.

And next weekend? Join us back at Pure Michigan!
