FURCAR: Samuel Deeds 400 @ Indianapolis (results/standings) by furcar

And so FURCAR arrives for its yearly pilgrimage to one of the greatest sites in racing history, Indianapolis Motor Speedway to challenge the Four Corners of the Apocalypse.

After a great start to his Eldora debut followed by a terrible finish, Croco’s team was all set to put him back on top for this race. However, his bid for the pole was stolen by season points leader Belic Bear and the croc had to settle for a second-place starting spot next to the bruin. Shockey Rai and Duroc Hog qualified right behind that pair in third and fourth, respectively.

With the pomp and circumstance of race day ceremonies, the drivers were finally freed to scamper or waddle to their cars and take to the track behind the pace car. Croco and Belic had a close call prior to the start while both drivers were warming their tires, their cars coming millimeters from slamming into one another before their reflexes pulled them quickly in opposite directions. Much snarling was heard over the radios, most of which can’t be reprinted without much censoring. Track officials waited an extra pace lap for tempers to calm down again before setting the drivers free with the green flag. Focus in the track and racing prevented any further hard feelings and the field swept into Turn 1 without mishap, then continuing on lap after lap as the FURCAR drivers settled into their rhythms.

The race continued smoothly, with only Zero Fox and Moon Mochi leaving the track due to mechanical issues. Then about a third of the way through the race, the racing got a bit too close between Raz Yoshi rookie Draco. Not even his sticky tongue could save them as the pair swung through the field, collecting Mike and K’gra, and nicking Jackie Rae. Jackie would head into the pits and go a lap down while repairs were made to her car, but the other four headed to the garage for whatever work could be achieved there. Raz, unfortunately, was unable to return to the track. K’gra, Mike, and Draco made it back out but only after they were laps down, vying to stay out longer than the others to gain some valuable points. They were later joined by Ice road lion, who broke the suspension in his rear end after a brief altercation with the wall.

In the final laps of the race, Croco had pulled out in front, leaving Belic behind during an excellent 11.8 second pit stop, and putting some distance between himself and Zeke and Cheesebeagle, who were duking it out with Eric for second, third, and fourth. Duroc Hog delighted in seeing the bruin in his sights and pressed him hard to take over the fifth spot. However, once the checkered flag fell, Cheesebeagle had nosed out Zeke for second with Eric behind them in fourth. Belic and Duroc forced a photo finish at the line, with the bruin taking fifth by millimeters. Mark beat Tigris to the line for seventh, and Dart Wuffy and Edscott rounded out the top-10.

Cheesebeagle is snuffling in Belic’s tracks for certain now, only ONE point behind the bruin! Duroc’s tie with Belic didn’t close the gap for him, but he has to feel good that he didn’t lose any ground either, even if it meant that Cheesebeagle stayed just ahead of him in second. With Zero’s terrible finish, he left the way open for Mark, Wildfox, Dart Wuffy, and Eric to fall into fifth through eighth. Jackie Rae stayed in ninth and Tigris moved up one spot to tenth. Croco’s win jumped him up four spots into eleventh, just outside the top-10.

On the rookie chart, Harry continues to lead Draco.

Next week, we return to the Poconos for the gobowling.com 400! Weren’t we just here? Nevertheless, see you there!
