My trip back, Day 1 by DeRiften

G' morning people! I am now on the bus to New-York on my way back home and already I have interesting stuff to say! This morning itself wasn't so eventful. When I woke up everybody was sleeping and by the time it was time to leave, they were still snoring away so instead of giving 'em a goodbye hug and telling 'em I'll miss 'em, I wrote a lil' message on a napkin and stuck it to the mirror. I'll miss you, Fenrari, Sailsior & Inu, it was awesome rooming with you guys. So there I go on my 20 mins walk to the bus station, get my luggage tagged without a hitch and go to the clearly-indicated gate for New-York and wait, sitting on my luggage. Around 10:20am they started boarding even though my bus is supposed to leave at 11:30am. The guy checks my ticket and says "sorry dude, this isn't your bus" so I go to the customer service to ask 'em which gate I'm supposed to wait at and they say "Aww man your bus is horrible. It's a scenic tour to New-York, you'd have to sit in the bus for 7 hours without drinking or eating or stopping to go to the bathroom and then you'd have to wait like 6 hours at New-York before your transfer bus leaves. Here, lemme throw you on a much better ride free of charge! This one will take 9 hours to arrive but at least you'll be able to stop somewhere to eat, plus you won't have to wait as long for your transfer! And just between you and I, the scenic tour's WiFi doesn't work and the outlets are often faulty". So he leads me back to the gate I was, tells the driver to reopen the door since he was just about to leave, quickly gets my luggage in the compartment and wishes me a good ride back home!

Now I'm seating right next to this woman about my age with messy hair and nerdy clothes, reading comic books while listening to music. I don't know her but my instinct tells me she's cool. Man, I'll really miss Pittsburgh.

So long, wonderful city, I'll see you in two years since I highly doubt I'll be free next year because of my studies.

UPDATE

I just left Newark, NJ which was the last stop before New-York. Everything smells like a mix of farts and lemon Febreeze in Newark, it's really weird. Other than that, my ride hasn't been so eventful. When I left Pittsburgh, everybody was Chinese except the girl I mentioned sitting next to me. When we arrived at Philly, half of 'em left and now it was half & half black & Chinese. There was this really old African lady sitting right next to me covered in scarves and I swear she was radiating heat; my thigh was burning. During all the time it took to get from Philly to Newark (I found out it's about the time required to play a game of Civ V), she kept talking to me in African. I didn't understand a single word so I just pokerface'd and kept playing my game while she kept talking and when she got off at Newark, she rummaged through her bag, handed me this bigass homemade nut cookie and said with an accent so heavy I thought she was still speaking African "Thank you for listening". Well, thanks for the cookie! I guess I should keep "listening". Other than that, there was also this black chick sitting on the next row who literally talked on her cellphone the whole ride (heck, she still is). And by whole ride, I mean she's been here since Pittsburgh, and that's 10 hours and a half ago. I've been having a blast listening to her and trying not to laugh 'cause the way she speaks is so ridiculous. Imagine all the stereotypes you could have possibly heard about how black people talk and blend them into one chatty black chick... with a lisp. Hilarious shit. Ahh well, I dunno how long the ride from Newark to New-York is gonna be but I doubt I have enough time to play another game of Civ V, and I'm getting hungry. Oh yeah, about hunger! Around 1:15pm we stopped at some place for half an hour to eat and stuff and I went to this Popeye's place. Holy shit that stuff is good AND cheap. It's like KFC, except with cajun fries and Louisianan chicken, cooking and stuff. Also much cheaper than KFC, somehow. I got a spicy crispy chicken burger (they call 'em chicken po'boys) with cajun fries, a bigass cookie and a 1L bottle of water (that I finished a few minutes before writing this) for 7$, including the taxes. But that was eight hours ago and now I'm hungry again, hmmf.

PS: The African lady's cookie was delicious!
