Anthrocon Journal, Final Day by DeRiften

AC is over, people. It's... over. I'm already feeling sad but maybe describing my day will make me feel better. This morning a knock on the door by housecleaning woke me up at 9:37am; my arm was prolly buried so deep in the sea of squishy pillows that I didn't hear my alarm so when I left for the con my hair was still wet. I went to Sardyuon's encore performance and holy shit he pushed himself to the very limit, tried a last-minute difficulty-up and almost got himself killed (and Kage of a heart attack). He would have no-doubt succeeded if everything went fine but the show started late because of "technical difficulties", which ended up being one of the chair being broken; he "fixed" it with duct tape. There he goes, over 30 feet in the air on a wobbly pile of chair, including one holding together with duct tape, and he tried to go FURTHER up by adding a whole new level of chairs. Sadly it started shaking furiously so he fuck-this-shit'd right there and hurriedly got down to ground level and ended the act. But as people were starting to get up, he came back and tried again. He got real careful and actually managed to get to the very top but as he tried to do the final handstand, he ran outta strength (which is normal since yanno, he technically did that act twice and under high stress) and had to end it too. He still got a standing ovation for his sheer dedication and willingness to succeed. After that it was straight back to the waiting line for the fursuit dance competition half an hour later, AKA no time for dinner (or lunch for you silly Americans). Sadly Sardyuon didn't participate as I hoped he would, and the quality wasn't as good as last year but hot dang it was still amazing. There was actually a duo this year and I hoped they'd win but they didn't even get in top 3. Oh well, back to the waiting line for the charity show half an hour later! Throw Kage & 2 together in a room with booze and you'll always get what you paid for, so I really don't need to comment on that event. Baaaack to the line for the closing ceremonies half an hour later (yeah, today was nonstop panels from 11:30am to 6:00pm)

Hot dang we got 1300 fursuits this year, over 5500 attendees (including over 500 sponsors and 400 supersponsors), and gathered a whopping 38 000$ for the charity! Records, records, records... oh yeah! We also got the Guiness World Record for the most furry characters in one place during the parade photo (which sold for 500$ and, of course, went straight to the charity)

After all that was done and over, I looked for Zoey\_Anelyn around the sea of fuzzies for a few minutes before giving up to my stomach's demands and walking back to the hotel. Since I spent so much less on food and stuff than I expected (I brought 200$ and I'm not even sure if I used half of it, including the 20$ book I bought), I decided to treat myself to one deluxe meal at a real restaurant, not just cheap fast-food. So I went to the Penn City Grille or whatever it's called downstairs of the hotel and one of today's specials was ribs with salad and mac & cheese. They brought me bread, water, butter and marinara sauce while I waited for my meal. Every once in a while, my waiter Terrence would come to ask me if everything was fine (plus since the restaurant was pretty empty, we chatted for a bit. He'd ask me about my experience at the con and he actually really cared!) and then after 15 mins or so of waiting, I got my meal. The ribs were freakin' delicious (though a bit messy) and they even managed to make mac & cheese look AND taste fancy, plus God was I stuffed (I still am!). You wanna know the best part?

It cost me a whopping... 13$. That's right, I got a huge plate of super high quality food and excellent waiting service and atmosphere for the same price as a Crispy McChicken trio with extra sauce at a McDonalds. If you're ever hungry at AC in Pittsburgh, I can never recommend Penn City Grille or whatever it's called enough. Just walk to the Doubletree and it's right by the entrance! Also they sometimes have a waiter in fursuit and that's always awesome.

Ahh... nope, talking about my day didn't make me feel better. On the contrary, I regret the convention being over even more now. Hopefully once my roommates come back there will be one of these traditional post-con parties but for now, the con adrenaline is starting to run out and I'm starting to feel exhausted. And then I think about the bus ride tomorrow (and the day after!) and I feel even more exhausted.

That's all for the Anthrocon Journals, people. I hope you enjoyed (sorta) living Anthrocon through my journals, I sure know I'm gonna miss it.

Anyway, writing these journals gave me back the taste of uhh... journal writing so I might just resume said journal writing. For now, I'm gonna die.
