I think I figured out why I don't enjoy horror movies. I don't like stupidity used as a plot device.

Also I've noticed in a lot of movies with supernatural elements is that the writing seems a bit lazy. Vague forces such as ghosts are by default a poorly understood concept. Things don't even have to make sense, because it's all mysterious and spooky. Of course when you want to scare people it can be done pretty easily with the some bad lighting, ominous music, and a jack in the box. This allows for some very bad writing.

I'm not saying all horror movies are bad. Objectively speaking, I have no place deciding what is "good" or "bad". I just don't enjoy the formula they follow.
