Post-Con FCN 2013 by arikla

So, now I have a chance to sit and type this all out. Coming back from a con, the next two days are always stripped out by work, unpacking and general catching-up.

Went with Mitok, FishyBoner and Wolfy in the Jeep. Cozy, but I am fairly impressed we were able to fit everything in there! Torakhan met us there and roomed with us all. Other than Wolfy and Mitok getting giggle-drunk on Sunday night it was a good group of roomies :)

For me, Thur/Fri/Sat were typical schedule... sit at table, smile, and sell stuff. Though, I must admit my sales were fairly slow compared to other years. One sketch, two badges and the rest mostly the shrinky-things. Always nice people to talk to, though :) Sunday about the same until the evening (I'll get to that). Initially I was a bit down about sales, but then I heard the charity received approximately $21000!! Knowing that much was raised for the charity made my lack of sales seem like small beans. That, and watching a little girl play with the fursuiters in the front lobby made me feel much better. Add in a delicious "Bear Track" (root bear, vanilla vodka and whipped cream) and I was doing well!

Then Sunday night we had fun with Mitok. See, I don't usually drink. I tend to be a grumpy drunk. Or at least the only time I have been drunk I became grumpy. Vodka apparently affects me differently than whatever is in a Daiquiri. It makes me silly... so Mitok takes me down to the bar for a drink and leaves me there... setting off a chain of "catch me if you can" texts between Mitok, myself, Wolfy and Fishy... hehe! That was really a lot of fun :)

The trip back was then uneventful.

While there, I had a fair amount of time to really think about badges, art, etc. I have decided I am going to stop trying to do really fast badges. I had been charging low prices since in trying to do fast badges they were not consistent in quality. As the saying goes "fast, good, cheap. Pick two". I want to pick a different two. So, I am going to raise my prices, but take longer on badges. I had previously tried to get them one in an hour, I am going to not worry as much about the clock other than to warn people when badges may not be done that day. I need to raise my regular art prices as well, but I'll spread that out a bit more.

So, overall a fun con if not very profitable for me. Next I am waiting to see if I am juried in for a table at a local ArtFest :)
