SCREW YOU, SNOW! by RentonTBuck

I didn't take into account of how bad the snowstorm would get yesterday.

The day started out okay. I planned ahead and left for work much earlier than usual. Normally, it takes about 27 minutes to get to work; the trip over there took about 35 minutes. Once I got to work safely and in one piece, I had my lunch that I had packed before and soon clocked in to work.

The school district where I work in didn't have school the other day (though it wasn't cancelled because of the snowstorm; it was already in the district's schedule). It seemed rather baffling to see people even come at all. You'd have to be certifiably insane to want to take advantage of having no school and travel anywhere in such bad weather. My boss later informed me that the building would be closed early at 4 PM so that everyone could get home safely while the sunlight was still out.

After leaving a little after 4, I drove back the way I came. This trip took me about 40 minutes; little did I know that the streets in my neighborhood were not plowed yet, so I ended up getting stuck in the middle of a street within close vicinity of my home due to the thick pile of snow (which was about 13 inches, believe it or not). Fortunately, my mother and a couple neighbors came by to help me out. Despite all our efforts, there wasn't any way for me to get back out and take an alternate route to get home while the snow raged on, so we left my car out on the side of the street overnight and waited until the plows went through to clear the streets.

This morning, after the plows came by to do their job in removing the snow off the neighborhood streets and driveway, I walked back to my car and was able to successfully drive back into my garage. With the experience I went through, it could have been worse (like if my car got stuck out on the highway or if I ended up in the ditch like several people did, but I fortunately didn't).

I hope everyone that had to face the dreaded snowstorm yesterday are okay and are home, safe and sound. :)
