With the new updates to Patreon fucking people over, I lost half of my patrons because they can't afford the new changes.

They changed their payment system so that instead of Patreon getting their cut from what the patrons were sending to creators, the patrons are now paying extra and that extra bit is going directly to Patreon. So it used to be that if someone pledged $20 to me, I’d get a little under that, but now I’m getting the full $20, but that patron is now paying more than they signed up for. In their official statement about it, they said that they’d rather have a smaller number of really successful creators with really high paying patrons than more small-time creators with a bunch of $1 a month patrons, which is complete bullshit, because when Patreon first launched, it was all about the small time creators being able to fund their stuff with small time donations. So they completely turned their business model on its head and ended up fucking over a huge number of users. I’ve been watching my friends who pay their rent from what they earn on Patreon posting to Twitter how many patrons they’re losing, and a lot of them are completely frantic because their numbers have dropped by almost half in the last few days.

Because of this, I've disabled my Patreon because I'd rather save my friends money than have them pay extra just to support me.
