To keep you all up to date: I just got off the phone with the car company. They're going to stave off the repo if I can come up with another $290 over what I already have to send them. It still comes to almost 1 full months payment, BUT it will wipe off the overdue amount. And then we will only owe them $274 a month for the next six months, which my mother-in-law will likely be able to help with, at least in part.

However, I only have four days to come up with the $290 or the deal is a wash. That's the longest their system will let them put off a made deal without a sealing payment.

So...here's hoping I can come up with the $300 (basically) that I need in the next four days so we'll HAVE a car to use while we go try to negotiate with private individuals to get a different car with a better monthly payment.
