Rats and Mice are a good example. Might be an interesting say of reinventing your Chimera Races. Could even Add in a third Race.
Also, Maybe explore other jobs and try to build your world more. Like, what do Industrial workers do? How does technology effect the world your characters live in. What are the social, economics, and such of the world?

Good points. In fact, I am currently rebuilding the world/setting for my Chimera species. Once that is well developed, I plan to write some more stories.

As for reinventing the Chimera races... I am really happy with the Bat Chimeras, its just the Rat Chimeras that need reinventing. I am closer to settling on a final design - at the moment it's a toss up between an armadildo like rats with armour plating, or a kind of predator rat species with 'incisors' that have built in fangs and shearing 'front teeth' for want of a better term. I am planning to get a commission of each concept to see how they compare - I have trouble visualizing things for some reason. >.>
