Summary of My Artwork – As Decided By YOU! by EmptySet

I have read all of your opinions and criticisms of my art, and please allow me to say how much I truly appreciate all of you who took the time to provide me your feedback, whether it be positive or negative. You have certainly provided me a new insight into what things I am doing right and what things I am doing wrong. There were many things I was not surprised by, but other things that surprised me a lot. I am glad you were honest with me.

With that said, I would like to take some time to discuss some of the more popular and interesting topics brought up by you.

WHAT YOU LIKE

The most popular topics that you seem to like in my art include:

Anatomically correct bits on my characters

Realism in my artwork

Ferals

Detail I put into my work

Fur textures

The above I will continue to pursue since I heard no disagreement about any of them.

WHAT YOU DISLIKE

There were a few things mentioned by people that either had a consensus of dislike, or were liked by some and disliked by others. I would like to first focus on the topics mentioned as disliked by the most number of people.

**I take too much time between art submissions. **

Since this was the most popularly disliked things about my art, I feel I really must discuss this one. I understand the anticipation for new art by artists one especially likes, but at the same time one must understand what it takes to produce such art. To create color-rich artwork, especially with a degree of realism to it, it can take several hours and several days to complete. On average, I was spending anywhere between 8-20 hours total on my drawings (in some cases more). Now, also keep in mind I was posting art about once a week! Now, if you were pointing out the fact I had not posted new art since December, well, you must know I have medical reasons for that which you may read about in an earlier journal. But anyway, you must ask yourself: Would you rather have quantity or quality? Because, if you want quality as much as I want quality, it takes time.

Ultimately, this is something I am not about to change.

**A bad use of color. **

This one I am on the fence on… On one respect, I understand your reasoning in that my colors are too dark, too gray, or non-vibrant. With respect to being too dark, yes, in many cases, I have gone overboard on the shading and shadows. This is something I intend to work on, with the exception of drawings that are designed to be dark. As for the grays, sometimes this was requested by a commissioner, and other times, I did it, so if it is my own work, I will avoid the grays if possible. However, the vibrancy of the colors I would like to argue. In real life, it’s not often you see very vibrant colors, and so with my attempts at achieving photo-realism, I use non-cartoony non-saturated colors simply to make it look more realistic. Now, with that said, those of you with art knowledge/experience, I welcome you to disagree with me and show me why I would be wrong here. Please! I am willing to learn.

**Penises are too big. **

Okay! No problem! I thought people liked them bigger ;)

**Lack of dynamics. **

YES!!! I completely agree 100% with you on this one. This is something I have been working on for several years, but have consistently failed. I absolutely love art that displays active motion while being a still image. For whatever reason, this proves very difficult for me, and it seems I cannot really figure out how to obtain dynamics in my art. I really want to though! If you have advice, please shoot it over to me! I would greatly appreciate the help.

**Shading needs work. **

This one actually surprised me, as I have heard no criticism of my shading abilities until now. But this is one of those areas where I am willing to listen to your advice and learn how to properly shade digitally. I think most of the complaints are that it’s simply too dark, which goes back to the “use of color”, and of course, I am willing to lighten things up a bit. I may look into some online tutorials on this and get some new ideas. Ultimately, I will work on it!

**Anatomical Errors. **

I mention this one especially since other artists seemed to dislike this part of my art, and they bring good arguments. I do realize that I am not the best sketcher in the world, and that I tend to focus more time on the coloring and fur texturing than I do on getting the anatomy correct. What this means for me is that I must focus more time ensuring that anatomical mistakes do not make it past my own quality control. I intend to do this by going back to what I used to do – talk to other people and get critiques on my sketches and drawings BEFORE coloring and detailing them!

There were many more things mentioned by people that seem to have a dislike as well. They included backgrounds, perspective, a lack of depth in my art, not photo-realistic enough and my ferals being too anthropomorphized. With regards to backgrounds, perspective and the depth of my art, I will work on these. As for the other two… Photo-realism is a difficult thing to achieve, but believe me I am working on it, but it may take me a long time before I can obtain that level of realism. As for my ferals being too anthro, well, this depends on what I am drawing, for whom, and what I feel like. I’m sorry, but that is something I am not willing to bend too much on. The fact is I like a bit of intelligence to my ferals.

WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE MORE/LESS OF

This is a very long list filled with a variety of responses, but I will focus on those that were the most popular. Keep in mind, I listened to all of your requests!

As for species drawn, the majority for each decided…

MORE: Equines, Exotic Species, Deer, Roos/Marsupials, Felines, Otters, and many more!

LESS: There was no majority opinion on any species, but rather a 50/50 split with regards to Canines, Gators/Crocs and Dragons.

As for topics drawn, the majority of those who mentioned it said…

Rule 34 - More

Looney Tunes - Less

Gay Art – More

Hetero Art - Split

Females – More

Males – Less

Herms - Less

Ferals – More

Anthros - More

Feral w/ Anthro – More

Feral w/ Human – More

CONCLUSION

After a careful breakdown of all of your responses, I filtered out those that targeted my artistic skills and scored myself based on your critiques. The score I ended up with was a 68%. This I would consider a below-average score. Hence, I intend on focusing more on my shortcomings, which have been discussed prior, and finding ways to improve on them. As for the various topics related to the content of my art, it is apparent what most of you like and dislike. Some things I will not change, and I will be honest in saying that since I am the artist, I do have every right to draw what I like to draw! But some things, I will simply avoid posting, such as the Looney Tunes stuff… let’s face it… I have drawn just a bit too much Wile over the years. I think it’s time for a break.

I want you to know I set this up to give you the opportunity to tell me what you think and what you like and/or dislike! This is not intended to direct me on what I draw, but rather give me an understanding of how you see my art, so that I may better myself. I was even considering the possibility of retiring completely from posting all art and simply finish up with some projects until the end of the year, but your feedback changed my mind. I was not expecting to receive as many comments as I did, so because of you, I will continue my art. After all, I am posting this stuff for you! And for your responses to it, I thank you!

TL;DR – Just read the conclusion.

Odd someone would want to see smaller penises in porn.

Anyways yeah that seems like it sums things up pretty well.

And I'd choose quality over quantity. It's just less stuff I have to sort through in my alerts.
