I'd just like to say.. [character stuff] by DaskerLizard

I like characters with visible flaws

like, seriously

nothing gets my design boner going than a character who isn't a perfect chiseled.. thing

for example, I'll use some of my characters.

shant and aska. do they look perfect to you? if you answered yes, look again. shant doesn't have the typical 'pretty boy' features. he has a broad not pointed jaw, a rather large schnozz and 2 scars under his left eye. he also has a 'barrel' build, he doesn't have perfect muscles nor does he have a perfect slim figure. he's that nice average between being strong yet slightly overweight. in mind, do you think he's perfect? of course he isn't, he's not some silver tongued negotiations expert otherwise he wouldn't have been in half the situations he's been stuck in. he's socially awkward and talks too much when he's nervous, he can't think for himself most of the time and requires a nudge in the right direction or he doesn't really do anything, because all he's ever known is following the command of someone higher up than him.

dasker, my lizard-sona. he puts on the charade of being a high class noble with his outfits, truth be told he lives in an attic above the shop he owns which is a complete shambles because he has to work in his store 9 hours a day because he has no employees. every penny he earns goes into spending it on little luxuries that make him forget about just how low down on the 'food chain' he really is. he has maybe 2 nice outfits and 1 long coat that conceals his 'commoner' clothes when he's unable to wear them.[take into account dasker's time zone is a time warped victorian style village in the middle of no where] in mind, he's a workaholic who feels guilty of every bit of time he spends on himself and not on others. he hates emotional ties because they scare him, he feels he'll break his charade if he lets someone get too close to him, this leans him to be somewhat dismissive and extremely shy to anyone who shows any kind of interest in him.

mali. my actual 'sona that represents me. well... it doesn't exist. it fits into no worldly categories, it has no gender, it has no truly physical form or species, its shape is never the same twice, the list goes on. as it isn't a part of social norms, its rejected as an oddity and dismissed. with no one believing in its existence and ignoring it, it becomes weak and ties itself to physical objects, much like a ghost or spirit. its completely blind in its default form, its top heavy body makes it clumsy and useless for most things. it hides away its 'true' form behind a weak facade to reflect how it feels treated by the world. in its own reality this small and usually ignored creature is actually quite important, it has its own status and values, but without recognition it loses sight of those values very easily. all it wants is to be noticed and taken out of the dark, yet at the same time anxiety keeps it clinging to the dark for safety.

anyway... does anyone here actually have a character that they have a [well thought out] story for? a character that isn't just 'there' with no background supporting its existence? a character that's thought out and not just a sex symbol? because that's all I seem to see on artsites, and its really very sad...

often I'll message people asking about their characters if I'm actually interested in finding out about them, but usually its met with a 'lol nope, its just this, nothing more, just a random design with no kind of history' stupid thing to be mad over, but I have an imagination that starts to form my own 'understanding' of how characters with no backstory came into existence.

actually... my characters all have their entire backstory thought out before they even get their names, or even their full designs

I'd just like to say.. [character stuff]

I've got characters like that, though sometimes it's harder to get those flaws across as I don't typically draw them MYSELF. I adore scars and fucked up designs and well thought out backstories, so I can empathize with you there. c:

I guess my most visibly flawed character is this guy: http://oi55.tinypic.com/33ekll1.jpg

Gangly build, older (50s-60s depending on the timeline), beaky as fuck nose, scars everywhere, nearly blind...and erectile dysfunction, thus the writing there, heh. (I created him as a character that I WOULDN'T have to worry about people wanting to sex up...and it didn't work. So ED happened).

Personally I'm a huge fan of crooked noses.

was debating giving shant a broken nose, but i already have a guy with a crooked nose and a half melted face x)

oh haha gotcha- well I don't think people would notice since the character in question wouldn't have a melted face XD. Long, noble noses with a bump in the ridge are neat too (A friend once described it to me as a "greek" nose?)

Most of my characters have stories behind them, although the level of development for each of them differs. There stories are constantly evolving and changing, they tend to take a life of their own.

character development always gets a boner out of me too but i am shy to share my own at times hahah. since i have a comic planned my dudes all have backstories but some are more chiseled that others at the moment, i hope to have them developed on somewhat equal levels at some point

aboh is the most developed atm since he is my favorite character of mine, i am proud i managed to post a wall of text about him on my character page for him :p hahah

i always think imperfect characters are perfect, it makes them more believable/relatable

character design boners are the best boners :B most of the time, I have a story set up before the character has any visual representation or even a name XD
