Yesterday, my father figure suddenly passed away. He went to the hospital a week ago for a circulatory problem with his foot, and it escalated until he had two strokes and finally a heart attack which ended his life. While Ernie wasn't my biological father, the Claxons took me into their family when for several years my biological family had shunned me when I first came out as transgender. While I'm heartbroken, they are totally crushed. Not only emotionally, but financially. Due to unfortunate accidents rendering them unable to work for the last three years, basically lived entirely off of Ernie's VA benefits, which let me tell you was not much, and now they can't afford to give him a proper funeral. The Claxons are some of the most caring, wonderful people I have ever met. Even though they lived with very little, they are never hesitant to share what little they have. I've given what I can for now; I need to make sure I have enough for rent, utilities, internet, etc for this month, plus I have to be able to afford to travel down to his funeral.
