hey music-making peeps, what kind of music-making software would you recommend (that’s reasonably affordable and easy to get into, too)?
I keep seeing FL Studio around, and it looks easy to use but some say there are better alternatives?
Crap, I should probably add that FL Studio CAN take a LONG TIME to get used to, depending on how often you've used music-making programs. I've played around in it for many years, and I still don't know how to make use of every single feature. Sorry that I can't offer you any more recommendations :C
Oh, I bet! I've only tried some tracker-type music makers before and they've been frustrating due to the stupid amount of hexadecimals that I'd have to memorize (I guess if you have LSDJ and compose chiptune music on your game boy a la Sabrepulse but ehhh it's way too convoluted to be useful to try to do something like that on an emulator unless you're particularly masochistic) IIIIN any case! I think figuring out a program's interface would be the least of my worries when it comes to trying to make music, ehehehh...
For what I work with (basic midi music), a combination of Anvil Studio, FL Studio and soundfonts are enough. I also use MIDIRenderer's sound bank and my YAMAHA PSR-320 keyboard.
I strongly support Harmony and Melody assistant: http://www.myriad-online.com/en/index.htm
Excellent composing tools there.

It depends on what you want to spend, if anything. FL Studio is very expensive, but the program itself is a joy to work with if you can somehow get a hold of it. There are a few free alternatives... but from what I've seen, most don't really offer that much in the way of features, which are a must if you want to be able to use a wide range of instruments and effects. Audacity is a pretty good free audio RECORDING program though, if you're in need of that!
