Definitely not returning to FA now. by tsunderdog

I cleared my FA gallery in disgust 2 years and 4 months ago. I've lurked on it for a while, to keep track of artists I like that don't post elsewhere. Now everyone's password is changed and if you don't know the email you used to sign up, or can't access it any more, you're shit out of luck. So now many people have no choice but to either create new accounts or abandon the website completely. I can't gain access to my account. I can't figure out which email address I used. It may have been a throwaway email, or something I have long ago abandoned. I sent staff an email this morning, so hopefully I'll get access back (if just to finally close it). This is to say nothing of the 3-4 accounts I created over the past decade. I have no even remote hope of getting those back.

Do not trust FA, or at least do not use it exclusively because "no one else uses other sites". You are putting your eggs in one basket by doing this and many artists which depended solely on FA-based income are now suffering. Do not assume FA is working on improving the site and making it safer and better. They've had 11 years in a lofty #1 community position and have done absolutely jack shit with it. They've hired and fired coders. They have a constant problem in moderation/trouble ticket turnaround. There's even reports that it's hard to get in contact even for ad space (you know, the one useful service FA actually provides for the community) In fact, they've gotten even worse as it's continued to exist because they thrive on the ignorance of fandom newbies and FA-only users (remember all the panicked hardware donation drives before the IMVU buyout, because it obviously has nothing to do with sloppy, inefficient code?)

FA no longer has to care about the users now that they're owned by a larger company that largely uses them for ad revenue. IMVU doesn't care about the site itself, but if it affects ad revenue they damn sure are going to demand changes. And FA refuses to use the eager people in the fandom to make those changes. For what? I literally can not fathom why they are not accepting any help from the immense pool of IT and coding talent in the fandom... or why they haven't used or partially incorporated any of the codebases people either volunteered on or were commissioned to build. There's like 3 ferroxes out there, all written by different people.

The captcha now present on the login page has conveniently broken FurryNetwork's import tool (and likely others), and it is likely that once they find a workaround some other "security" measure will be added. I have no doubt that the captcha was added to slow and complicate mass exodus to other sites. You are fooling yourself if you think they are doing this for any reason but to keep people posting to FA and FA only because ultimately people are lazy and no one wants to move like, 500 submissions from years of posting.

I have no doubt that actually locking people out of accounts without notice is the final nail int the coffin for FA. I'm done with wanting FA to improve, I just want it gone now that there are so many superior competitors out there.

Definitely not returning to FA now.

    Well said.

There have been so many Final Nails in FA's coffin for so many years now that I don't even know what will kill it anymore or if it will just shamble on like a headless zombie forever. I HOPE this kills it once and for all, but I'm also terrified at FurryNetwork's positioning itself to be the new next in line if something ever finally does. Like, wow, good job furries, you found the one group of people in the entire goddamn fandom even MORE inept and morally repugnant than Neer and co.

Like I said, Neer relies on the ignorance of new members and people who only use FA (because furry facebook). Now people literally cannot access the site unless they make a new account, and that's a whole lot harder of a hit than Furryleaks was.
