I hate having to do this.

My job depends on my car. With my job, I put an average of 80 miles a work day on the car, and spend an average of $20 a work day on gas. I'm an independent contractor/delivery driver for DoorDash.

DoorDash doesn't cover car repairs, or gas, and some days I don't make much more than what I put out on gas and food for myself and my wife, who rides with me both because she shouldn't be left alone due to her stroke damage, and because her night vision is better than mine and she can spot hard to see addresses at night (and sometimes signs and other things that I miss if they aren't obvious - like no turn on red zones).

My car now has over 91,000 miles on it (we bought the car at 58,000, almost 3 years ago) and nearly 20,000 of that is since starting this job.

The radiator fan has died and so we have to be very careful to avoid overheating the engine. This will be about $250 to fix. I don't have it.

The battery is dying as a result of overuse (constantly having to turn it off and back on when waiting in lines and at stops to avoid overheating), and damage from the times overheating has been unavoidable. This will cost about $120 for a new battery. I don't have it.

A fuse blew and now our back brake lights don't brighten and cruise control doesn't work. This isn't an expensive fix, but it's difficult to find anyone who will do it for a reasonable amount and has the fuse because our car is old. To make matters worse, we have a fixit ticket about this issue that's due by the 15th of next month. The fuse plus the ticket will run me about $150 total. I don't have it.

Our brakes are squealing and the pads need to be replaced. That will come to about $430 total. Our tires are wearing out. That's another $400-500.

This is over $2000 of car repairs and maintenance alone. This doesn't count the bills I'm barely scraping in enough to pay the minimum on every month. This doesn't count day-to-day life expenses like medication (between Lona's and my meds that insurance doesn't pay for, we shell out almost $140 a WEEK, and that doesn't count OTC things like Pepcid, which we both need, and supplements that we both need...)

Not that there aren't good things about the job - there are. I've lost almost 70lbs since December when I started. We get to spend all our time together, which is perfect for both of us. And, of course, the fact that we ARE bringing in money. It's just...not enough.

My wife is going to be applying for state and federal disability, and as a stroke victim she should get it quickly. That will help. But in the mean time I'm looking at our car about to fall apart beneath us one of these shifts, either when the battery fails or, gods forbid, the brakes fail and we get into an accident....or when someone doesn't notice only our top central brake light lighting up and slams into us from behind.

I'm just trying to live...and I really, really need help. I'm pushing myself so hard. I'm exhausted all the time. I put my wife to bed and sit up for hours going over the bills and trying to figure out how I'm going to afford LIFE.

So please...if anyone can do anything...I'm desperate. This is no way to live. This can't go on. If I can at least get the $2500 or so together to fix the car, it would help so much.

My spinal stenosis is getting worse. I need more pain meds than ever just to do this job at all, let alone keep up with chores and the like at home. Laundry is an all day ordeal. But the government says that because I'm still capable of working, I can't get disability. And I am, I'm working the only damned job that would hire me. And it's killing my car - our only mode of transportation.

So please - if you can find it in your heart to donate even a little, it would be a huge benefit to me. Help me remember that there are people out there who care. That I'm not alone trying to haul us out of this hole. Please...you can donate to my GoFundMe:

Or directly to my PayPal:

Thank you for anything you can do. Even if you can't donate, please at least share the GFM campaign to your personal facebooks and twitters! I'm going to try and update once a week with how things are going.

Thank you all again.
