Thank You, TFF 2016! by Caelan

Whew! Thank you so much to everyone for showing me such an awesome first fur con! I had a great time and did better than I anticipated, which I think was a much needed confidence boost-- it felt like a sign that I'm starting to turn a corner with sustaining myself through my art, that I might actually be able to do this. Thank you so much to everyone who bought some art and supported my work, or even just stopped by to say hi and introduce yourself. It was a really cool experience all around.

I'll definitely be doing more fur cons in the future-- though the way TFF's Artist Alley was set up was entirely too stressful, so I think it's Dealer's Den or bust from now on. I'm hoping to do MFF this year, but that will depend on whether I can grab a spot. Maybe I'll see some of you there, with any luck on both our sides!

For those of you whom inquired about commissions; I'll have a post going up in the next few days with an update on all that! In the mean time, shoot me an email if you'd like to grab a spot ahead of time. I'm finishing off my pre-existing queue this month so that new folks have no wait starting soon!

Thank you again everyone! I'm excited to be back to painting now that the back to back cons are out of the way, and will have new art to share with you very soon.

Well hey, I'm glad the con treated you well as a first time furry-related venue! I can certainly say that we're always appreciative of new artists coming by. I know I was pretty happy to find a new artist to follow, myself.

As for that Artist Alley lottery set-up it's actually pretty prevalent in most furry conventions. I'm not sure why except that it's the best method they could think of to keep the table turnaround even among the list of artists that put their names in. Do other non-furry conventions do that?

People on twitter were telling me that the fact that it's a daily lottery is unusual. Furry cons have a totally difference pricing range than other cons that I'm aware of-- which is a mixed bag, I guess! The fact that the tables are practically free ($10 a day at TFF) is nice, and allows artists who are just starting out, or who don't have a lot of means, to still set up shop and have a space to show their work and make sales. But I think that if they at least allowed some pre-reg of AA tables, then just asking $30-40 in advance of the con is not an insurmountable cost to allow people to have sense of security as to whether they'll be able to make what they expect or need to at a given event.

But I'm also in the position of being happy to pay $100-200 for a table like that if its a guaranteed spot and I don't have to set up and break down every day... I've heard Dealer's Den tables at fur cons are in that price range roughly, which sounds like the price I'd expect for an Artist's Alley spot at other events. 6 and 8 ft tables at GenCon cost I think 450 and 550, respectively? But that's also an event with roughly ten times the attendance as even the largest fur cons, so there's more potential for sales.
