Yano, the biggest pet peeve I have happens most on social network sites these days, I hate having to log into Facebook or Twitter and just have to scroll over porn or obscene crap. It's one of the things that really annoys me, because for one it's embarrassing, especially if your family is in the room and two.. it's just unnecessary and I have deleted/unfriended people because of it.

I'm sure no one thinks of how they are portraying themselves to the world, or who is looking at the stuff they post on an OPEN social network. I think I'm honestly one of the very few people who are seen as 'innocent' online, most of the things I post are funny pics or memes, a few photos and my artwork which is all basically PG.

I mean..

I'm an artist (Captain obvious there), I practice illustration and animation and all of my work is clean, the most I will draw is tasteful nudity. These are the things I like to paint and am happy doing so, I don't mind if say, my family looks through my online galleries (which they often do) because there's nothing I consider distasteful within my work.

Now I have nothing against drawing porn and I'm not gonna mother people and be like don't do this, don't do that.. All I'm saying is that you should probably have an after dark account or something, something that separates your 'adult' content from your 'normal' content. You don't want to link someone to your gallery that has both of these in it an expect them to only view the clean artwork.

Not to mention..

In the last few years companies have clued in to the internet and social networks (more so than they did before) and they WILL look through your Facebook, twitter and sometimes will even Google your name to find out about you.

They are only going see what you post online and unfair or not, they will judge you on it. They don't want to sit down and get to know the 'real' you over a cup of tea, they only want to know if you are right for their company and guess what they will see.. Yep you got it, everything you post online good or bad and using that they will make a decision about who you are.

Yep, it sucks and it's unfair but that's how life works.

Now what if I did post distasteful or offensive art/comments? and then I applied for a company like say Disney?

Yea.. I'd be rejected if all they saw was crap tagged to my name. I don't blame them either, if I was in that position I'd reject that person too.

This is the same in every area at the end of the day, you would be representing that company and they don't want people who will give them a bad name.

I think at the end of the day I'm just saying that people should think before they post, the internet is a double-edged blade and people should be wary of that.

*takes a deep breath*

Now I've had my little rant, I can go shut up now and prance off back to work ^^
