Kurgan is of an ancient species known as Alphyns, with very few remaining members from what he knows. He is much larger then anyone in Siberia, and often shows his displeasure when others point that out. Raised as a Nenet reindeer herder, his parents are unknown, but he doesn't mind this much since his tribe welcomes him warmly and always with open arms.

Kurgan has the ability to breath fire, claws much like daggers with a large sickle-like claw on each foot, large fangs and over sized tusks, and the obvious ram horns. Main points from his species are (Alphyns are medieval beasts composed of a wolf, lion and dragon): long and thin tounge much like a snake without the fork, a knot or twist half way down the tail, and long tufts of hair from the elbows and ankles. Sometimes known to have eagle-like arms and hands/claws.
