Umbra was originally born as a normal Ralts within Sinnoh until the Distortion World crisis brought forth by Team Galactic and Cyrus threw the region into chaos during her fifteenth birthday as a Kirlia on Halloween. The residual antimatter scattering across the land with Giratina's forced emergence would fuse with her body; debilitating her into a grave sickness for over a month until she seemingly recovered. However, while nearing her twentieth birthday which was the eve of her expected evolution, the virulent darkness that had been embedded within her body caused her to devolve into a raging monster of shifting shadow. She would manage to flee from her family as to not endanger their lives while her mind spiraled into oblivion.

During Umbra's self-imposed exile to Unova's Pinwheel Forest, her condition would continue to worsen over as she constantly struggled to control her unstable power. However, on the day of her twentieth Halloween birthday, she would fail to suppress her violent instincts and would assimilate a Mismagius and a Gourgeist before immediately evolving into a Gardevoir. The energy released from her evolution would then finally manage to quell the destructive darkness and bring her back to her original disposition. She would then realize her stature was now unlike any typical Gardevoir as it hosted the distinct features of her victims. She had also inherited some of their memories; including the sheer terror that was instilled during their final moments. Upon piecing together everything that had occurred, she would be wracked with guilt as she could not bear to ever return to Sinnoh to face her parents again; her aberrant appearance forever branding her of her sins.

Ten years would pass until the exotic, entrepreneurial Serperior, Lotus, would one day survey Pinwheel Forest in order to scout out new ingredients for her winery to utilize. To her upmost surprise, she would encounter the sorrowful hybrid residing within the forest and was begged never to return for the fear of assimilation. Recalling her own sentiment of being a freak and sensing the brimming potential within Umbra, Lotus would offer her a position within her winery to curate and refine its ingredients; noticing her expertly-conducted harvest of various berries. With much reluctance at first, Umbra would eventually accept the offer; proceeding to dispel her unbearable isolation and making enough of a living to move into Karma's neighborhood. Upon sensing the Darkness embedded within his soul, she would find herself being steadily entangled in a obsessive desire to experience his power which seemed to mirror her own.

Umbra is able to manipulate nearby shadows into physical formations and imbue them with various properties; making them solid as steel, liquifying them into an ink-like sludge of any viscosity, or thinning them into a veil of darkness to control others and read minds. She sometimes infuses them with ingredients that are to be used for Lotus's various concoctions. Her long, silken hair is able to extend to great lengths for ensnaring others and relishing in their desperation; although it is not as strong as her shadows, she exerts less effort in doing so.

While Umbra is rather docile, lonesome and cordial during the daytime, her shrewd and salacious demeanor surfaces whenever the sun sets. Her amorous lust is brought to its apex whenever a full moon looms high in the night sky; radiating her irresistible allure to compliment the lunar illumination tremendously amplifying her power. However, a new moon unleashes her dark, monstrous fervor to consume all; having to seal herself away for the night within her shadows as to make sure her uncontrollable state does not harm anyone else. She has come to dub this duality of extremes as “The Violet Harvest”. While the darkness she wields may be fraught with peril at times, its mystifying seduction is simply too compelling to ignore and not be escorted deep into its captivating depths~
