Lukai is an ursaren--a bipedal race of bear-like humanoids with long, feline tails.

Appearance

The ursaren are bear-like humanoids, roughly 6'6" to 8' tall. While their ursine appearance is the root of their name, they possess a number of feline traits, including long, prehensile tails that are nearly half of their height. While their claws aren't razor sharp, they could easily tear into things with enough force behind them, and their teeth are pronounced enough to often be visible even with their mouths closed.

Ursaren have thick, dark, oily fur which is highly resistant to frost, often making warmer climates uncomfortable.

Personality

The ursaren value loyalty and honesty very highly, and are of a basically peaceful nature; they don't actively seek out violence or combat without good reason, despite the fact that most are trained in some form of it from a very young age. Generally amiable to most, ursaren can be very stubborn. Most are incredibly short-fused, argumentative, and aggressive, and very few back down from a confrontation.

Because of this, the ursaren are often considered barbaric, warlike, and violent. While their general attitude doesn't help, part of it is inherent in the ursaren's tribal history. They consider themselves to be a peaceful people, slow to anger, but an ursaren warrior provoked is always a dangerous thing.

Social

The ursaren operate in a strict clan hierarchy. An ursaren's clan heritage is worn like a badge of honor; upon attaining adulthood, each ursaren undergoes a ceremony in which his or her fur is dyed with a special ink only visible in a specific visual spectrum. Clan symbols are used to identify an ursaren's lineage, even among the nomadic ones who shun technology as a whole.

Each clan values different things; some embrace technology and incorporate it into their ways, while others eschew it entirely to promote and pursue more spiritual paths.
