Vela, once a free-roaming vagabond that traveled around the islands with his friend, Anderson. Eventually became king, hooked up with Sapphire and had two sons, Amber and Scurry.
However, times grew harsh when the Grox wars began. During battle, he got a gaping hole on his face that left him dazed. Months later his eye regenerated back and now all that remains of the battle is his distinctive X-shaped scar. That...and all the unseen emotional damage that has made him the gruff and intimidating beast he is now.
His friend had gone, his wife became ill during pregnancy with Scurry and died after giving birth, his other son had left the island to who knows where, and with another war coming, he decided to give up his son to a random stranger. (Luckily it turned out well for Scurry)
With nobody around, both him and Anderson's mate, Oozma, came together to cope with their losses.
Vela gives no slack to his enemies, in fact he's quite cruel. He is skeptical of any new individuals that he meets, especially of Whofly! However, he is much "happier" now with Scurry around.
