Very smart, but doesn't seem it. Likes being alone and has very poor social skills.

At school Tobias was always top of his class but never really showed much interest in learning. He had the opportunity to go to some of the best colleges and universities in the country, but instead decided to leave school and work on his own stuff. He had been working on plans to build a sentient robot for a few years, and completed building it at the age of 17, using parts from a nearby junkyard. However, the robot, which he named Balthazar, had something wrong with its programming, as it started showing signs of repressed violence, but it wouldn’t let Toby reprogram it. Toby and Balthazar eventually came to resent each other, and Balthazar ran away, almost killing Toby in the process.
A few years later, Toby decided to try again, this time making a robot with a purpose: To protect him in case Balthazar ever came back. In 2017 he completed it, and named it Volcano, but when he tried to activate it, it didn’t work. Because he had failed in creating two robots successfully, he lost his patience, and left Volcano in the junkyard, where Balthazar found her.

Now, he spends most of his time in his room trying to work out what went wrong, with no idea that both of his robots are still active.

Relationships:

• Balthazar - He's terrified of him. He doesn't know what went wrong, he never meant for him to be violent
• Volcano - She was his best work, before she 'broke'. If he knew she was working, he would be thrilled, but he would treat her as a pet rather than a friend, especially since she wasn't meant to be able to walk upright or talk
• Natalie - He talks to her about robotics online every now and again, but he's never met her in real life, despite them living in the same city
