Early Life
Koata does not know his parents. He was found in the first few weeks of life by a semi-nomadic anthropomorphic feline tribe. They helped raise him, even though it was a learning experience for both parties. There is question of if he would ever have thought to transform into a feline form if not for them, but as no one knows his history, there is not any way to prove or disprove this.
His adopted family consisted of Niko (Dad), Tyria (Mom), and Allili (Sister). Allili was a teenager when they found him. They were all very close and never treated him any differently. Sometimes a few of the others of the tribe would try to pick on Ataiya, but Koata could normally diffuse the situation. And when he couldn't, he was fully prepared to defend his friend with force if necessary. Normally Allili was the one to patch him up if he got into a scuffle, though as he got older he often didn't lose. By the time he turned ten, the rest of the tribe had either accepted him...or knew not to mess with him.
In his early 20s, he made the decision to leave his tribe and travel around. He wanted to see more of the world and see if he could find any other tailmouths. This is what he has been doing since. He and Ataiya love exploring, learning about new cultures, and especially tasting new foods!

Professional Explorer: As mentioned above, Koata and Ataiya travel and explore continuously. Their primary objective is to taste new foods, but they also adore learning about new cultures, plants, and animals. Koata keeps travel logs with sketches and information about each new plant and animal they discover and what they learn about it. He also keeps a log about any new recipes he learns and tries to expand his cooking knowledge at all times. As you may be able to tell, Koata and Ataiya really like food and eating. Their palettes appear to be very well developed and they both really enjoy all the flavors they discover.
Koata became an excellent cook during his years with his tribe, and also has pretty highly developed survival and camping skills. He may be small but he has a highly developed musculature and is quite athletic. He juggles and performs acrobatic stunts when traveling to earn money to keep himself fed and well supplied.

Biology: Koata is bi-gender. Through some residual magic in his bloodline, he can transform himself to a limited extent. He has two forms, and each form can present as either gender, depending on how he feels. He typically presents as a male, and thus normally goes by male pronouns, though sometimes he will present as a female, mostly for fun or sexual shenanigans. He has a humanoid form, in which he keeps his ears and a tail. He also has an anthropomorphic feline form, in which he presents as a humanoid feline. When presenting as female, his coat acquires a reddish hue. Not even Koata can control this part of the transformation, nor can he explain it. Itis suspected that his female form's DNA carries a latent gene somehow activated by the changes made from male to female DNA pattern.
Ataiya appears to be genderless, but goes by male pronouns for sake of simplicity. It is unclear whether Ataiya's eyes actually function or if he just feels everything through their shared senses. Koata is of the opinion that Ataiya has a pretty clear idea of what's going on around them at all times. Ataiya cannot speak, but seems to communicate in some way with Koata, who can often sense feelings and even ideas from him. Ataiya can also control his tongue quite well, and sometimes uses it to grab or pick things up. Ataiya's teeth are something of a mystery. They appear to be retractable, as they will often disappear completely, and yet this doesn't leave holes in his gums. When they are present they can often differ in size and shape. Koata isn't sure but suspects that Ataiya taps into the same residual magic he uses to transform to control his teeth.

Relationship - Body & Tail: Ataiya and Koata have always been friendly towards each other, at least as long as either of them can remember. When they were little, Ataiya would often accidentally bump himself into things, and Koata would console him. Ataiya did not learn to control his movements fully until about the time they turned five. Also, sometimes Ataiya would get picked on by people not used to tailmouths, and Koata would defend him. Nowadays, they can both take care of themselves if need be, but prefer to try and use (Koata's) words to get out of a situation.
Ataiya and Koata are very close, and often find themselves interacting with each other sexually. They do not appear to find anything unusual about this, and when questioned about it merely shrug it off. They see it as normal to them. They are not, however, opposed to playing with others, and do not appear to get jealous of each other in these situations.

Psychology: There is a few things Koata fears. For example, he doesn't much care for some bugs, especially ones that bite. He does like moths and butterflies type insects tho. He also used to have nightmares when he was young about waking up to Ataiya being gone. Those have ceased now, as he has gotten older and become accustomed to Ataiya being there. He is very comforted by Ataiya's presence as he has a small fear of being alone. But with Ataiya, he never has to be.
He tries not to let it get to him too much, but he does occasionally wonder if he is the only one of his kind in existence. He does not dwell on it much but he does wonder what happened with his real parents. Did they leave him on purpose? Did something happen to them? He doubts he will ever know, but he does know that he was much loved by his adoptive parents.
He does sometimes return to the area he grew up in to visit his clan. His father has since passed away but he does still see his mother and older sister. He doesn't seem to age like they, or most other humanoids, do. He has come to accept that he will probably outlive them all. Tho it breaks his heart, he has come to accept it and enjoys the time he has with them when he visits.
Koata doesn't have a lot of book smarts. However, when it comes to picking up a new language, cooking, or athletic endeavors, he excels. He also has a knack for surviving on his own, a skill that helps him greatly in his travels. He often picks up bits and pieces of various defensive (or offensive) martial arts wherever he travels. 
Koata and Ataiya are both optimistic realists who try to see the best in people. Even though this is the case, they are able to be aware of being taken advantage of. They are also willing to leave behind those who are poisonous to them, and defend themselves if necessary.
