Ryan Coldwater is a Rockhopper Penguin. He is so due to genetic manipulation, a practice becoming more common in his world as a form of self-expression as well as bettering them in the workplace. He chose his form as a method of self-expression, and also because of his love for swimming.

Physical Characteristics

Atop his average build, his feathers are a sharp jet black, often mistakable for a shade of indigo. His While the penguins he is derived from have plantigrade feet, simulated evolution (done through genetic manipulation) has formed digitgrade feet for being more adaptable to long periods of time on land. However, the simulated evolution didn't do much but add thumbs and add more developed arm joints to his flipper-arms, making manipulation of many objects made for humans difficult at best. While the beak itself isn't mobile, expression is made more evident through more pronounced expressions in the face elsewhere and body language.

Wardrobe

Common dress for Coldwater usually includes lots of black. Nearly all his shirts are black and have some connection to an electronic or hard rock musician. Bottoms, namely cargo shorts usually are a dark gray or black as well, or pale, dark blue in case of his boot-cut jeans. When in water, where he often is, his body negates the need for swimwear.

Personality

He is typically optimistic, albeit sarcastic in demeanor. Though often one of great patience and calm, there is no transition between this state and frustration when he is tested, usually when he has to deal with excessively thick-skulled people. Being a rather proud individual, he often appears apologetic when facing a difficult situation, often due to feelings of complete inferiority by not being able to accomplish a task. He struggles with this part of his personality due to not being able to perform things that most other sentient beings can do due to not only having a totally different physiology than the majority of the population, but not having proper digits aside from a thumb on his flippers. However, it is this pride and need to be successful that also this that gives him a competitive edge in many fields.

Hobbies

Coldwater is very keen on swimming and anything that has to do with water. When he is not in a pool, he is an attempted novelist, book lover, artist, PC gamer, and a music connoisseur. While his altered body forced him to abandon his guitar, he remains an avid trumpeter.
