Hoku comes from a race that once inhabited the warm shallow waters and coast of a great island nation. A shift in the earths crust cause the island to violently slide and sink into the new trench that the earth had ripped open.

The race that once lived in the sun now forced to dwell in the abyss. Although, according to some accounts, there was a split between the population. One side decided to embrace their new dark home, while the other wanted to re-locate and find better waters.
