The Dawnrunners are the rival pack of the Stormbringers: where the Storms are based on Norse mythology and believe they are descended from Fenrir, the Dawnrunners are based moreso on biblical ideals and the angelic hierarchy. They see the Stormbringers as a blight upon the earth and generally do everything in their power to wipe them out. Zad is actually the product of one of those attempts, when his father Azrael began an endeavor to effectively "breed out" the Stormbringer bloodline. Several Stormbringer females are still being held hostage by the Dawnrunners for use in this ongoing plan, resulting in a new slew of halfbreeds from the two bloodlines. Zad, however, is not as zealous as his father, and believes there have been centuries of misunderstanding between the two rival packs. He has shown himself to be sympathetic to the Stormbringers in secret, working to set some of the hostages free and trying to heal the hatred between the bloodlines.
