Chosen because of his exceptional service to Vantage International, he was placed in command of the newly formed unit known as the Guardians. Established before the Talwyn/Ashurian war to combat Talwyn agents and their abilities, they are given more specialized training than the conventional soldiers. Assigned to address missions where encounters with Talwyn abilities are likely, they are well suited for battling their various craft abilities.

Sir Walter is often well dressed and carries a cane with a hidden blade in the handle. He is a giraffe with zebra markings which contributes to his unusual appearance. He leads the Guardians with a strong decisive leadership style. He is well spoken and intelligent.

Sir Walter Mathis grew up in the Ashurian capitol city of Eden to a wealthy family. He was trained in swordfighting at a young age, and completed a tour of military service before the Talwyn/Ashurian War. At present he lives in the Guardian floor in the Vantage International building with the other Guardians.
