Tobias has a bit of a cliche back story, his wife and daughter both died during childbirth, something that could have been prevented had Tobias swayed from his ways and listened to the doctor. After that he lost faith in a lot of things, his religion, his hard set beliefs, and even himself. He spent over a year in isolation after the death of his loved ones, twiddling away his time by writing a new coding language, then developing that into a simple AI. Making a full unchained AI was illegal, people were just to scared of what could happen, but Tobias didn't much care anymore. He fed what was left of himself into the program, and when he felt he could offer no more he watched as it grew on it's own accord.
As is the nature of an AI built from scratch and made to learn by itself, it was completely self centered. It gobbled up information and offered nothing in return. It trialed and erred for hours before it could figure out how to access the right sequence of switches to make letters, it worked and worked over years and though so little ever happen Tobias watched eagerly. Life began to take meaning again, and without realizing it this little project began to feel like his own offspring. Once it learned how to speak he would talk with it for hours without end, feeding it the information it so desired. He did so without bias, and the things he had no answer to he would just look up. Eventually he felt the AI was developed enough to allow free access to the internet. This offered a boom in it's growth rate like never before.
Finally Tobias knew that it would want a body soon. He set to work, pouring his love into a machine body that would offer it everything it would ever eventually want. The ability to speak with words, the ability to express itself without words, the ability to touch and feel and see and run. Without really thinking about it the body began to look like himself, and maybe a little like his dead wife. He planted limiting flags that he hoped would never have to be triggered, he set a visual sign to keep an eye on the evolution of his AI. And finally, when he felt the body was perfect and his new child began to beg for its release, he loaded the program into the body and set it loose into the world.
For a while the robot stayed beside Tobias. Tobias liked that, and now that he could talk to his program he started to call it a name, Primitivus. The AI liked it, and for many years it stayed and helped Tobias around the house and kept the aging tiger happy. Then one day Tobias told Prim that it must go out into the world, it must learn of the world beyond his walls. He told it that it must never reveal that it's an AI, and then off Prim went.
Prim came back to Tobias many times, each time having a longer gap. Prim would tell Tobias of it's adventures, of the tings it had learned, and each time Tobias would see a change in the color of it's eyes. Once when it came back the eyes glowed a soft mostly green, traces of yellow still left. It's voice had changed, still monotone but deeper, and it told Tobias that it was a boy. It told Tobias that it enjoyed the sensation of pleasure, and asked if it could have the part that male organics seem to have. Tobias knew the day was coming, and he only chuckled in the wisdom of his old age and added the part without fuss. Then he told Prim not to come back until he looked in the mirror and his eyes glew blue. He made Primitivus promise, and so he did. Then, when his beloved robot and son left for the final time, Tobias sighed a sigh that can only be made from an old man who has lived a happy life, and settled himself into his chair to record his final message for his son.
I have re-wroked Primitivus a bit. He's still basically the same, I just wanted to make some physical changes having to do with his creator. His creator was Tobias, a thickly built White Tiger.
