[Excerpt form the Short Story:]
"...Thadwande, but everyone in Sen'jin knew him better as “Marlin three-tusks.” The old, tough-as-kodo-hide Troll got his name in part from his fishing mastery and in part from his marring injury he sustained from a fight when he was barely older than Yehiel's current age. Due to healing complications and severe infection, the entire left side of Marlin's face remained drastically scared. His eye healed incorrectly, causing it to fuse close, and his long cracked tusk split wider apart, giving him the appearance of having three tusks. Many of the others in the Village joked in compliment that because he was so bold and strong, the Loas blessed him with a victorious fight and a third tusk."

Marlin is a bullheaded, tough old Troll with a high sense of pride and honor. He is a veteran of the old wars, 'the good ol' days' as he refers them. He lived to see the rise of the Horde and the Darkspear's new brotherhood with the Orcs and Tauren. If given the chance, he could talk for hours in praise of the old Warchief, Thrall, and other war heroes of the time. For many years, this revered warrior fought as one of the Darkspear Vanguard before his war injuries began to take their toll on him. Eventually he sired a son with his mate, Usenti, and resigned to the Darkspear watch. In this time he also took up the life of a professional fisherman, knowing his strength and days of fighting were rapidly waning.
Of all his scars, his identifying split tusk resulted from a duel of honor and not a fierce battle. The duel was over Usenti's dignity being called into question by another before Usenti and Thadwande were mates. Though Thadwande had won the duel, he was taken off guard by his opponent with a cheap shot. He held no hesitation in resuming the duel and ending the opponent's life.
