While the Southern Frontier burned, while the Fleets were swept aside by the inexorable tide and the valiant Local Defense units ground to dust, a young Admiral schemed. He plotted, brooding over the fate of his species.

Gu'Tanoth's childhood was not particularly noteworthy. He attended primary and secondary schools and displayed nominal acuity, exhibiting an affinity for history and socioeconomics. Like most citizens of the Hadean Federation, he had originally signed up simply for enfranchisement, but as the months turned to years and he grew accustomed to military life he decided to embark on a career, ascending through the ranks of STARFORCE to secure an Admiralty in late 2481. The next year, Almerisan was burning, and the future of the Federation was in free-fall.

In 2486, Gu'Tanoth was first tasked to a Fifth Fleet battlegroup with orders to halt the Val'Turri advance on the Kalrec's Chance system alongside the rest of the Fourth and Fifth Fleets. They failed, simply due to the overwhelming numerical and technological superiority of the Val'Turri invaders. Gu'Tanoth and his battlegroup distinguished themselves, however, by successfully disabling one of the smaller Val'Turri Collectors before the call to retreat came through the Anchornet. Though the rest of the battle was a resounding defeat, this small victory in those dark, early days of the War served to bolster flagging morale.

With the Fifth Fleet all but destroyed, Gu'Tanoth was tasked in 2490 to the Seventh Fleet and immediately deployed to Keldar's Bounty to attempt another holding action. After the command carrier was destroyed, Gu'Tanoth assumed command of the defensive operations, and it was his order to retreat from the battle that spared tens of millions of civilians from the flame, as the Fleet raced back planetside and boarded as many refugees as they could, before jumping to Peace River. The Sixth Fleet stayed behind and fought to the last man, to buy enough time for the Seventh to escape. His actions would lead to a further promotion to Fleet Admiral, and command of the Third Fleet. SPECTRE raids would delay the invaders for two years.

In 2492 Gu'Tanoth led the Third Fleet to the first major victory of the War. The Battle of the Bulwark saw Gu'Tanoth undertake the unprecedented and unthinkable action of appropriating civilian mining equipment from the local Erolan-Buulas Mining Corporation -- primarily asteroid shunts and catapults, which were essentially giant mass drivers. Occupying the Bulwark, a large asteroid belt in the Peace River system, Gu'Tanoth weaponized the Bulwark, smashing asteroids into the invading Val'Turri to devastating effect. His actions not only spared the colony of Eloras but caused incalculable damage to the Val'Turri, resulting in their retreat from the system.

In 2499, reinforced with the Supercruiser Haedana'Sabarok as well as the new Sa'Drujj and Gal'Boarn starship classes, Gu'Tanoth led the Third Fleet to a resounding victory over the Val'Turri, with nearly 80% of their fleet confirmed disabled or destroyed before the surviving Val'Turri escaped.

For nearly twenty years since the end of the Extinction War, Fleet Admiral Gu'Tanoth has shepherded both the Third Fleet and, indirectly, the Federation as a whole towards its uncertain new future, refusing numerous promotions to retain his front-line position as he leads the Third Fleet beyond the Outer Reach in search of new worlds to colonize, to help heal the wounds of the previous decades.
