Flux was created in a lab, the real reason for it's existence is still a mystery just as for many others of his species even it doesn't know why it exists.

During it's time in the labs it was referred to as 'Nemeton' though it chose to not use this name once it escaped instead he took it from the first film it happened to see while watching in though a window of somebodies house.
