Terica was once known as Earth, prior to a massive eruption of the planet's Ley Nodes, which brought civilization as all knew it to an end. The landscape was drastically altered, new land, especially the Khelgan, created. And the vast majority of humanity changed into many different species. Eventually, civilization made a comeback and with only relatively scant knowledge of the times before, the world continues, much as it had before.
