When she was young her little brother passed away and so her mother, to pass her off as being another mans son, dressed Mary in mens clothing. She carried on wearing them for years to gain jobs aboard navy ships.
Her Alias "James Kidd" came with a fierce reputation of being the bastard son of the late William Kidd a notorious pirate.
