S-14N, better known by his self-identification as "Ian", is an android who originally served as a Scout for the Commonwealth, where he was created, before eventually fleeing them and going on to live a free life. He is an optimistic and cheerful sort of guy, almost always looking upon things with a very positive view. Hope seems to be a thing he's never lost sight of, no matter the bad things that befall him. He is a bit naive at times, and trusts easily, though often seems to put his faith in the people who actually can be trusted. Ian makes for a loyal friend and companion, and a very protective one at that. He has a soft spot for the underdog, and goes out of his way to help people and things that many others might deem "impossible to help".

His partner in traveling, his lover and most dear friend is a disgruntled drug addict named Hal who he would do just about anything for. Recently he convinced Hal to let him keep an injured Bighorner calf, who he has named Gumbo.
