Setting: 1920s Western Civilization (Post WW1 environment)

Iago was born out of wedlock and abandoned by his father before he even left the womb. After popping him out, his mother placed him in a dark room and only came in to stick a bottle in his mouth, never picking him up and sometimes not even answering his cries. After a short while she disappeared, most assumed she committed suicide, and a local catholic orphanage took him in.

He grew into a disrespectful, yet giggly child. He would latch onto weak spirited people and manipulate them to get what he wanted. But most of the time he was left alone to swim in his thoughts, as long as he wasn't bothering the other kids or adults. Iago is naturally an intensely focused child, he takes time examining every detail of someone's face or a picture. If it's an object, he'll feel every corner over and over again until he has it memorized.

After a while he noticed that the things he examined could tell him things, about the past and eventually even the future. He became even more focused on things like dripping wax on a candle or the blinking embers in charcoal, to listen to their stories. Everything they told him would happen, usually happened. He found comfort in reading the future and feeling prepared for everything.

Eventually he noticed that it was spirits communicating with him, spirits and beings who promised him more knowledge if Iago let them use his body. Iago happily became a channeler who taught him about an even stronger form of divination: Hieromancy. He began letting spirits enter his body to kill pets or small animals in the area, who would in return tell him something that is to be.

During one particular sacrifice he slaughtered a goat, who's entrails told him the destroyer of civilization would be coming to his orphanage in the form of a young boy, and to care for him until his destiny is met. A few days later a boy by the vaguely given physical description was taken in by the orphanage, and Iago quickly befriended him to find they had similar interests in the dark arts.

Inside the school the two boys formed a secret witch club where they could encourage other lost souls to join them.
