Toki is an NPC in a 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons campaign I play in. He's the adoptive younger brother of the character I play in the game (who shall be getting his own submission at a later date).

At first glance, Toki seems to be a typical bookwormish sort; very intelligent, always has his face in a book (to the point of forgetting to eat), and very socially awkward. However, he hasn't exactly had a happy life; he had the misfortune of being a child with magical potential in a strongly anti-mage family. So strong was their hatred of mages, in fact, that they had no problem with locking him in a cellar and making his life hell.

Then his older brother, who had been sent to Asgard to study magic, returned home. And when said older brother learned what had happened, to put it politely, he went completely ballistic. By which I mean he nearly killed his father. The older brother ended up being exiled from home for it, and took Toki with him.

In a lot of ways, Toki's a product of his upbringing: the combination of what happened to him when he was young, plus his brother's protective tendencies, have made socialising a lot more difficult for him. In addition, the abuse left him with a phobia of being trapped, and as such he has a habit of checking every room to find escape routes. However, he's had a lot of time to read and learn, especially about magic, and he is an extremely fast learner.

And he wants to be an independent adult.
