Bio:

As a result of the rift between his parents, Periwinkle was given two sets of names, one in the tradition of his mother's side (which is also his official name) and one in the tradition of his father's side (which is the one he's using).

He was born in Hoovesbury, outside Trottingham to an affluent household consisting of his archaeologist father who was never really around, and his retired stage magician turned theatrical agent mother who never really had time. He was raised by a succession of foalsitters, mostly students from the nearby schools.

He quickly developed his cutiemark, firmly establishing his talents as having taken after his mother's side of the family. Rejecting this, he became a studious pony, developing his talents in another direction entirely. This led him to graduate from the Hoovesbury School for Colts with good grades, moving on to Hoovesbury Hall public school, and later to Trottingham University where he wrote his dissertation "A study of teleport fluctuation patterns as a function of hypsis-field energy variations in certain spectra" and was made a doctor.

His work in the field of teleportation magic has landed him an invitation to Canterlot to be part of a research team attempting to get a pony teleported to the moon without the need to upset Celestia first.

Strengths:

Like virtually everypony in his mother's line, Viator is talented with a form of stage magic, as implied by his cutiemark. In his case, it's conjuration. Not actually creating things out of nothing, but - as a human conjurer - using sleight of hand (or in his case, sleight of magic) to perform feats of teleportation and telekinesis.

He can teleport small objects quickly and quietly and with a great deal of precision. As long as it's an object and a location he's familiar with he doesn't need to rely on line of sight. The "sleight of hand" also means he's very quick, and one of his favorite tricks is to swap the chalk he's writing with on the blackboard to one of another colour without even breaking pace.

The fact that he's actively researching, studying, and teaching teleportation magic means he's pretty competent in his field. (Although no professor, and certainly not another Starswirl!)

Weaknesses:

Being a shy colt to begin with and being raised by strangers in public schools means the rather awkward colt grew up to be a rather awkward stallion. Constant academic pressure and peer review means he's never sure of his abilities either. (After all you're never better than the reviews of your latest articles in the scientific publications!)

A further complication is the fact that he's rejecting and suppressing certain important sides of his cutiemark, specifically the parts about stage performance, leading to occasional bouts of self-doubt (although teaching university students is an outlet, and his lectures are always popular for the spectacular floorshows he - largely subconsciously - put on).
