Altezar, one of my many Dimenzhian dragons drawn in MSPaint with the mouse
this picture is still a WIP, AND PLEASE DON'T STEAL IT.
That means the lineart, the colors, any of it. This was my own drawing, inspired by the red and blue dragons of Dungeons and Dragons, in their Draconomicon.

The city of Drekhalla was founded by a group of dragons looking to hide from the war raging on the surface. This was back when Humans still roamed that side of the planet. The giant bubble, formed in the creation of the world, was dim when they first came upon it. But after years of digging and shaping the rock within, the sun is able to shine through a diamond 'window' and light the entire area. Toward the northern end of the bubble is the city, carved towars of stone that can reach floor to ceiling with many caves and paths dug into them and the ground below. The biggest of these is the palace, which spans half-height to the ceiling and thrice that below ground.

The founders, nearly direct descendants of the Ancients, were all pure representations of their breeds. Like pedigrees. Their descendants carried that along, only wishing to clutch purely, love aside. This lead to the birthing of a corrupt culture of selective clutching. Those who had the purest blood had the highest rank, regardless of intelligence or strength.

This tradition carried on for centuries after the founders perished, and then it became even more twisted. High-ranking males such as the King would gather pure-blooded females, collecting them by color and shape, and strategically clutch them to make the perfect future kings.
It wasn't until Altezar came into the picture that things changed. His grandmother had left Drekhalla to escape the corruption, and fell in love with a Plains dragon. When she laid his clutch, she forever tainted the pure Mountain bloodline of Altezar's family.
Centuries later, Altezar had hopes of becoming a royal guard, protecting the city from invading griffins. But when he joined the Trials, he was ridiculed and ran away, refusing to return home. After an angry, aimless flight he ends up in a cave lining the southern wall of the giant bubble, far past the fields and pastures. When he rises, he meets Gryndel the Black from the Tzar line. A line long dead, but well known for its unique fighting style that once saved Drekhalla.
She offers to train him, which he takes happily, having read ancient scrolls depicting her line's magnificent work. And the next few years, he finds himself being pushed to his body's limit as she works him to the bone.

By the time it's done, he had matured into a handsome, large male with proud wings and healthy scale. Gryndel then sits him down and tells him that things are about to change.. She is the last of her family line, barren and forgotten. But though Altezar's scales are blue, she would be honored to have him carry her family name. Floored, he takes it along with his adult name Altezar (when they're hatchlings they are given nest names that are forgotten when their minds and bodies mature). Then she turns to him and proclaims that his final test has begun.. and attacks him.

He defeats her swiftly, and as she perishes she whispers her pride in calling him her son. Stunned and in pain, Altezar Tzar flees the cave. He returns to the Trials, where nobody recognizes him in his adult form. When he gives his name, none are quick to believe it.. until he is challenged in a race across Drekhalla, from one end of the bubble to the other. In the race, the students can use whatever tactics they must in order to reach the other side first. It really tests their battle skills more than simple scuffling.

Already, Altezar has laid his gaze on those that ridiculed him all those years ago. When the race begins, so does the violence. Young males claw and bash against each other as they fight to get into the air.
Altezar, now equipped with the most elaborate fighting style known to the city, dodges their blows and is one of the first to reach the tops of the buildings. Several males turn their attention from each other to the blue, not willing to lose this race to a newcomer. Especially when the stakes are graduation from the Trials. The males beat their wings, gaining on him and surrounding him as he weaves between the tall, cave-dotted pillars. Onlookers of all colors and breeds hang their heads out, trumpeting and bellowing their excitement. Unfortunately their noise also batters his ears as it echoes from building to building, effectively ruining his ability to detect oncoming attacks.

A male dives in from the side, tucking a wing and rolling into Altezar's hip, nearly knocking him into a spin. But he uses that, fighting the air, feeling as though his wing leather would rip from the strain, and swings his body until he can deliver a thunderous blow to the shoulder with his tail club. The stunned male, breathless and limp-winged, plummets.
Now the other males are taking him more seriously, having not been taught such flight maneuvers. They drop back, looking to rethink their plan and letting Altezar gain some more altitude and escape the tangle of buildings.
For a moment, Altezar believes they'd given up as he nears the halfway mark. Then the world flashes white as a diving golden male hits squarely in the center of his back. His wings nearly snap as he is forced down several feet, but he manages to fight the strain and rights himself just in time for another blow from the side, which he deflects with his thick shoulder.
The distraction is just enough for a green male to sweep in from the opposite side and dig his claws into the thick meat of Altezar's flank, jaws snapping. Unable to keep his wings going properly with the extra weight, the two begin a slow and uneven plummet, wings, teeth, and claws flailing and swiping.

The gold male moves in, wrapping his jaws around Altezar's neck and pulling, and stars spatter the blue male's vision. Desperate, he closes his wings and quickens the fall, his weight enough to pull the flapping attackers down with him. The green bails, unwilling to break his neck over a race. But the gold keeps his jaws locked and his wings flapping.
Now able to open his wings without catching, he guides their fall with wings arched, and makes a sudden roll that brings the gold male right into his talons. Now realizing the danger, the gold male releases his prey's neck in a high-pitched screech, and the two lock into a flurry of scale, blood, and fire.

In the end, the gold male crashes into the soil, broken and torn. Altezar lands beside the fallen male, having forgotten the race as he stares into the face of the dead dragon. Another dead by his talons, and he'd hardly kicked off the last of his egg it seems like.
The sound of wings behind him snaps him back to attention, and he turns to see the old scarred male in charge of the Trials approaching, ready to tear him apart for destroying his best pupil. Prepared to run, the blue retreats backward, bumping into a hard breastplate hot as fire. He rolls up his gaze, and finds it returned with a massive set of golden eyes, surrounded by the most impressive crest of horns he'd ever seen. That head could only belong to one male: King Redhelus.
Rather than be angry, the King congratulates him for his brave display and impressive skills in the air. And upon mentioning his abilities, also brings up the Tzar name, which Altezar claims with a nod. The others left in the Trials scoff and snort, for as far as anyone had known the Tzar line had died out with old barren Gryndel. But, a stomp and a roar from the King silences them. For how could he lie about the family name, when he so obviously knows their legendary style? At that, the demands that Altezar come to live in his palace, as his heir. What luck!

After the first few days of healing and pampering in the palace, the King retrieves Altezar to take him on a tour of the palace. It is during this
