Ryokan is originally from China with his family being the guardians of the Dragon King there since the beginning of time. He was born in a different time period having to adapt to some more modern ideas and over time having to spread good relations with other countries from his King. Though his world stuck to the old ways, Ryokan had to be taught things by his less primitive cousin Moon Doggy to get used to how far ahead some of the rest of the world was like cars and computers. Though he really does like the modern day food hamburgers.

Like the rest of his family and friends who guard the palace, when Ryokan sits on his stone pillar he turns into a statue. When he goes feral like most mythical animals close to his species, the fur on his tail and back of his neck looks as if it is always flowing. He prefers being anthro most of the time since he can do more with hands rather then paws. Though his place is always sitting on his stone pillar, Ryokan has his own house which he shares with his little sister Chitose and occasionally his cousin Moon Doggy.

Unlike most Fu Dogs who can have bad tempers, Ryokan is more calm and relaxed. He approaches most situations calmly unless he can't help it. Do not dare hit a woman or a child in his presence, he will attack and severely injure if not kill you. Harming Chitose will result in slow painful death no questions asked.
