Sarrtjie was a human from the Kho tribe that specialized in hunting mythical creatures. She built herself a reputation as the go-to person to acquire the most elusive of beasts, dead or alive. She learned of a bounty for capturing the rare Jungle Troll, a creature that is only found in the jungles of Ceneral Africa. Sarrtjie searched for her quarry for over two months when one day, she happened upon the object of her search while bathing in a river. The troll was in deep water trying to catch a fish. Saartjie swam silently toward the troll underwater. When it dived under to try its luck again, Saartjie was ready. She wrapped her arms around the creature’s neck and hung on. The two tussled underwater with the troll trying to toss Sarrtjie off her neck, but the bounty hunter’s grip was as tight as a vise. Eventually, the female troll drowned and Saartjie was able to drag its carcass to shore. While Saartjie was resting from her struggle, she was ambushed by a wizard that was tailing her. He originally planned on stealing the carrass to sell for himself, but seeing both the bounty hunter and the dead troll gave him an idea. Remembering that bounties are typically worth more money living, the wizard recited a spell of his creation, he switched the souls of the troll and the human, so the troll was "alive" while Saartjie was "dead". He constructed a magical cage and put the unconscious troll (with Saartjie's soul within) into it and headed to the home of the person that posted the bounty. When the wizard arrived at his destination, a cloaked figure met him at the door. The figure, covered from head to toe in a brown garb, demanded that the wizard open the cage before he gets paid. Although suspicious of the figure's demand, the wizard allowed greed to out-weight caution. As soon as the cage was magically opened, the cloak was flung over the wizard's body, then a spear was ran though the wizard's body again, and again. Underneath the cloak was what could be best described as a ghost...only not a ghost. While this was going on, Saartjie awoke to find herself within a gate. Not yet aware of her transformation, Saartjie struggled to her feet and managed to sneak out the cage past the wizard and the ghost-like entity without being noticed. She walked toward a river and as she got on her knees to take a drink, she saw her reflection. Saartjie screamed for so long that she almost lost her voice. When she gathered her wits a bit, Saartjie decided that she needed some answers...
