Oh, that Cacoph lurking in the back there. He follows Oki practically everywhere. So here is a general storyboard time-laps thingy. I'll get to the actual structure of her world soon, but here is a little:
The world that Oki and Shekaru and everyone else in this story live in has a lot of diversity people wise. Some some people are decedents from a "subspecies" of humans. Oki is one of those. She covers her right eye in order to seem more "normal", but in reality she is just the way she is supposed to be. Shekaru is a descendant as well, but that's for another age meme. These people are in some ways segregated from people that are "normal" and this creates a lot of tension between many groups of peoples. The most fortunate people in this world are the ones without much uniqueness, not to say there isn't diversity, but none of them have outstanding physical characteristics, like a third eyeball, or suction cups in place of fingers. just sayin. Some people are lucky in that their "abnormalities" are subtle, so with a little effort they can blend in with higher class societies.
