Aazhie

Name:
Aram

Gender:
Male/hermaphrodite in the plant sense
Height:
~7 feet
Weight:
200 lbs approx
Species:
Titan Arum, Corpse Flower

A reaper for the Gaia Online shop All Darkness. Aram is the salvage essence of a Titan Arum, given consciousness and humanoid form. The plants are pretty fantastic and I thought it would be a fun concept to explore. They don't flower for up to ten years, as their flowers are so spectacularly huge and energy consuming they have to build up massive corms to support them. The flower is one of the largest on earth and has a large irregular spadix that earned these plants the family name Amorphophallus, or misshapen penis. They carry both male and female flowers which bloom at different time to prevent self-fertilization. When the flower opens, for 12-48 hours, it releases heat and a terrible stench that attracts flies and other corpse eaters. They can be trapped in the flower overnight, which must be frustrating for a hungry critter but get released to pollinate other Titans. There are a variety of smaller corpse flowers and can be edible after processing and tend to grow in disturbed ground, or secondary forests. Even after flowering, they tend to be bizarre, and only produce a few or single leaf at once. It's unusual for these plants to flower and leaf at once, though some ambitious plants can flower more than once a season or produce multiple flowers at once!

Concepts I plan to use for his human personality:

Patient: Waiting a decade for a single flower that only last a couple days max has instilled great patience into his psyche.
Tolerant: Lived off rotting material and being a hermaphroditic plant using flies for reproduction- due to the nature of his flower and flies.. HARD TO SHOCK! If requires food, will be easy to please with the most wretched of leavings.
Steady/Stable: Mentally well-rooted. Does not upset or grow excited over much. Content.
Disturbed ground: Comfortable about less stable individuals and may get more out of being around unusual personalities.
Productive: Lived a long, fertile life as a plant with many descendents, doe not feel compelled to seek out things to do but efficient when assigned a task. He's not lazy, but is happy to act like a retired oldster after a meaningful life. He's quite happy to accompany someone on a strange quest and remain the voice of reason amongst more energetic creatures.
Zen: I don't know if he can stress. Tends to think much before acting and speaking, will not react to insults, remains placid overall.
Inhuman: Doesn't understand drives beyond staying alive and the basics of life. Not vindictive or afraid of being unmade in the slightest, though he will prefer to stay conscious and performing his duty as a reaper, which has taken utmost importance now that he cannot reproduce and grow. Serious, though he may learn to appreciate humor and jokes. Has a strong affinity for warm bright sun, fresh water, natural sounds, heat, rotten debris and all the things that would make a tropical plant happy.
