Name:
Aveytra

Gender:
Species:
Shadow Dragoness

Anthro Height: 5'9"

Feral: 13' at the top of her head, 40' from snout to tail, 60' wingspan

Also possesses a shadow form, when she is particularly angry or upset. Her luminescent markings vanish, and she becomes something ethereal.

She hatched alone in darkness to the sounds of distant screeches of pain and the scent of blood. She shivered, huddled in the shattered remains of her once safe haven, meeping softly and cringing at every scream. She did not understand this strange place, these noises and scents of filth and death, nor would she understand the ordeals she would soon be forced to endure.

From the moment she hatched, Aveytra lived in darkness under the cruelties of a human ruler who wished to use her as breeding stock. A wizard informed this king that her species could breed immediately, the moment they hatched, and so they tried. Little did this king realize this was merely a ploy to gain a sex slave from a truly sick and twisted individual, so the wizard was placed in charge of the king's "breeding program" to supply him with an army of trained dragons.

She suffered under this wizard's hands for many years as he "prepared her" for breeding with one of her own kind, as he knew from experience that human children could be brought into fertility sooner in life by constant sexual contact before their natural time. Her body was mutilated as bands were attached to her to allow chains to be attached to restrain her during breeding sessions. Her wings were crippled by gashes in strategic points in the membranes that scarred so heavily she could not have opened them even if she'd been brave enough to try.

When she was deemed ready, the wizard brought in his "pet", a hatchling like herself, though he'd been twisted by his owner's sick ways. He was savage when he mated her, slicing through her flanks, often needing to be forced off of her before he became too violent. These encounters left her desperate and terrified, wishing for the release of death, and naturally terrified of the scents of males of any species.

Unfortunately for the king, his "dragon army" was a fanciful dream and soon the reality of his enemies overwhelmed his stronghold. Avey cowered in terror as the sounds and scents of battle raged outside, loud enough to even penetrate her dungeon holding room. As the foundation of the castle shook with explosions, raining stone and debris down around her, the door to her prison opened and a young slip of a maid stepped in, clutching her chest in fear. Wide-eyed, she approached Avey and began trying to free her, her small hands shaking as they scrambled to undo her shackles. As the last of her bindings were tossed away, the young girl took the dragoness' head firmly in her hands and whispered, "Go! Flee from here, and be free!"

Blinking in surprise, Avey quickly bumped her nose to the girls forehead and gave her a grateful, if astounded lick. Having never used her voice in her life for fear of punishment, she had no words for her savior. With one quick look over her shoulder to the trembling girl, she slipped out of her prison into freedom, praying to stay undetected in the heat of the raging battle until she was far, far from the only place she'd ever known....

She lacked the training to be able to hunt for herself and a few days later collapsed near a stream, where another young drake found her. She was too weak to escape or fight back, but Zanon meant her no harm. He nursed her back to health and over the course of a few months, taught her about hunting and draconic heritage. He coaxed her into speaking her first words, though she never did speak much unless necessary. He eventually broke through the walls she'd so carefully constructed around her emotions and, under the light of the moon with a waterfall and night time insects serenading them, became her mate. [NOTE: In the context of their RP, hatchlings must undergo a right of passage to grow to an "adult". So, while they resemble "children", they are emotionally and physically developed enough to mate. At this time in her story, Avey was 18 years of age.]

Though they were hatchlings and capable of only limited flight, his heart ached for her that she would never fly with such injured wings. Steeling himself for what he must do, he spent the last few days showering her with love and affection, never telling her what he had planned. On the final day, they awoke before sunrise to view the fiery orb's ascent before the light became too much to hurt her eyes. Wordlessly, he led her into the center of a beautiful pattern that had been scratched into the soil. He spoke a short incantation that had the earth shaking, leaping up to swallow them both down. She struggled fiercely against the rocky grip of the earth before finally submitting to unconsciousness.

She didn't know how long she'd been asleep, but when she regained herself, she was lying on a small pile of rubble alone with both wings extended on the ground to her sides. She looked upon them in wonder, sleek and smooth and unmarred and, for the first time in her life, fully extended. He'd healed her! Only then did she notice she was alone. She called for Zanon, heart beating frantically, stumbling weakly from the mound of dirt and rocks. Out of that pile showed the tip of one metallic grey wingtip.

Panic seized her as she flung dirt away from the wing, chest heaving as she willed herself not to dissolve into tears. She dug until her paws were a shredded, bloody mess, but she could at least pull the broken form of her mate from the clutches of the earth. She draped herself over his lifeless body, finally allowing the tears to come as she keened her sorrow into the night sky.

She now wanders from place to place now, moving frequently. She has resorted to being mute most of the time, the shock of losing her mate and only trusted friend too much for her to bear. She completed the right of passage into adulthood after a time so as not to have let his sacrifice be in vain, though every time she spread her ebony wings she remembers the sweet, caring drake who made it possible to live, love, and soar the skies.
